The kitchen extension is almost complete for our Garden View House in Aston Magna in the Cotswolds. There are some snagging items and external works to finish off, but we are looking forward to seeing the final result.

We're working on this extension to a converted barn in Herefordshire. The design looks to add a new garage to show off some classic cars. The garage building also contains a new master bedroom, ensuite, home office and utility room. Externally, it will have a traditional appearance that is sympathetic to the irregular nature of the existing barn conversion. A glazed orangery structure links the garage to the existing barn conversion with the glazing providing a visual separation between the buildings. Bifold doors fully open to both facades, ensuring that the orangery can be fully opened to the garden.

The challenge for this project is balancing the requirements of the brief with the desire of the planners to keep the project modest in scale.

In such instances where the scheme is likely to be contentious, we recommend seeking preapplication advice from the Local Planning Authority so that you can establish what is acceptable without risking any potential negative planning history on your site. We have received preapplication advice from the Local Planning Authority, which allows us to progress the design further and increase our chances of planning approval.

We're excited to submit this planning application for a rear extension in Aston Magna. The existing home has a fantastic garden, and the best views of it are perpendicular to the rear of the house.

Our solution is to form a new kitchen extension in an L-shape to maximise the views of the garden. The connection with the garden is maximised with bifold doors that fold away at the corner.

The design also features a green roof, and a generous roof lantern that will ensure the kitchen is a light and a pleasant place for entertaining.
