The scheme will deliver improvements to the road layout and infrastructure outside Barnstaple Railway Station, helping to improve access and traffic movement for the local community. Works are due to commence in September.

Helping young children understand road safety can make a lasting difference, which is why our team was delighted to visit Little Oaks Nursery School alongside Beaumont Traffic Management Ltd.

We introduced the children to road safety through interactive games, role play and hands-on activities, helping them recognise common road signs and practise crossing safely at a pelican crossing.

Activities carried on long after the session had finished, with the children taking the lead in their outdoor play area as pedestrians, drivers and lollipop people, putting their new knowledge into practice.

All children received a take-home road safety pack, produced jointly by Montel Civil Engineering and Beaumont Traffic Management, helping families continue those important conversations at home.

Montel Civil Engineering, Beaumont Traffic Management and Little Oaks Nursery came together to deliver an engaging learning experience, demonstrating how collaboration can help inspire the next generation while supporting the local community.

The session was delivered as part of our social value work as appointed contractor for Gloucestershire County Council’s Black Dog Way and London Road cycleway, a vital infrastructure upgrade that links the Gloucester City Centre Spine with existing cycle routes along London Road.

Thank you to Little Oaks Nursery for welcoming us and to Beaumont Traffic Management for helping make the session such a success.

Quote from Laura Hogg, Associate Director at Beaumont Traffic Management:

"It was a real pleasure to visit Little Oaks Nursery and see first-hand the vital role they play for NHS families in the community. As a business that works on live roadworks every day, it was great to spend time with the children talking about road safety, helping them understand how routes can change during construction, spot the new signs that appear around roadworks, and know what they mean and how to stay safe when walking past or through sites”.

Another significant win for Montel’s South West Region.

Montel Civil Engineering has been appointed to deliver the Village Enhancement Scheme at Puriton and Woolavington, Somerset, for This is Gravity, forming part of the wider 616-acre Gravity enterprise zone.

The scheme will bring a series of improvements across and between the two villages, including a new shared footway and cycleway, improved pedestrian routes and crossing points, traffic-calming measures, gateway features and landscaping.

These improvements will make journeys safer and better connected, helping to reduce traffic speeds, encourage walking and cycling and strengthen connections between Puriton, Woolavington and the wider Gravity development.

This latest award marks another exciting addition to our growing South West portfolio and brings Montel’s expertise to a scheme set to make a lasting difference to the communities it serves.

Black Dog Way Cycleway Scheme continues to take shape, with our team delivering the project on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council and WSP.

Works are continuing with the installation of kerbs, drainage and traffic signals as the scheme progresses.

The new route will strengthen links between the existing cycleway network and Gloucester City Centre, making it easier and safer for people to travel by foot or by bike while improving access to key destinations across the city.

It's great to see another project progressing that will encourage active travel and leave a lasting benefit for the local community.

The safety of our people and those around us will always be a priority.

As part of our ongoing commitment to health and safety, Fully Automatic Defibrillators (AEDs) are now available at our Worcester Head Office and every active Montel site.

Although we hope they are never needed, having this equipment readily available means our teams are better prepared to respond in the event of a cardiac emergency while emergency services are on their way.

Alongside the rollout, training has been made available to all employees, helping build confidence in recognising a cardiac emergency and using an AED safely and effectively.

Taking proactive steps like these helps create safer working environments for our people, partners and visitors.

After local resident Hazel contacted us to ask whether we had some spare topsoil for a set of new planters, our Works Manager, Paul Jehu, saw an opportunity to do a little more.

Paul arranged for members of the Montel team to help. They positioned and filled the planters with drainage stone and topsoil, cleared away old materials, repaired a drain, reset the drain covers and left the area ready for planting.

Hazel later sent us this wonderful feedback:

"Thank you and your team for doing such a fantastic job clearing, positioning and filling my large planters at Chapel Court, clearing away the rubbish, repairing the drain and resetting the drain covers. They worked so hard and fast with good humour, leaving everything clean and tidy, and I'm so pleased with the result."

Taking pride in our work goes beyond delivering projects. It means making a positive difference wherever we can and leaving a lasting impression through the way our people represent Montel.
