900km+ in 5 days!

Montel team member Brendan O’Reilly has completed the Wild Atlantic Way Ride from Mizen Head to Malin Head as part of the Birmingham Irish Cycle Appeal.

Taking on more than 900km over five days along Ireland’s west coast, Brendan completed the challenge in support of six fantastic causes: Maeve Fanning, Reynolds Cross Special School, UHCW, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Unit, Birmingham Enterprise Sailing Trust and Cancer Fund for Children Ireland.

Huge congratulations to Brendan and everyone who took part in this year’s Birmingham Irish Cycle Appeal - an incredible achievement for some brilliant causes!

World Mental Health Day 💚

Mental health looks different for everyone, and so does the support we might need.

This year’s theme, ‘Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change’, highlights the importance of listening to people’s experiences and recognising the value their voices can bring.

At Montel, we know that sometimes the most important thing we can do is make time for a conversation, listen without judgement and look out for the people around us.

Taking the time to check in with a colleague, friend or family member can make a difference.

Today is another reminder to keep talking, keep listening and keep looking out for one another - not just today, but throughout the year.

Black Dog Way 🚧

Black Dog Way continues to take shape, with surfacing works and the Applegreen MMA now complete across Phases 3B1, 3B2 South, 4B and 3A2.

The scheme remains on track for completion in early December, with Phases 3B2 North and 4A now underway as we move into the penultimate phases.

MBBR units in at Earlswood Springbrook!

September marked a major milestone for our team, with both Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) units installed - the culmination of two months of enabling works, piling and concrete works.

The use of off-site manufactured MBBRs, adopting a plug-and-play philosophy for these units and other process equipment, has allowed the programme to be accelerated significantly.

Works completed ahead of the installation included the reduced level dig, completion of all piling works and the pouring of the MBBR base and crane pad. Access for the delivery of both MBBR units was provided via a purpose-built haul road.

Next up: pipework alignment and the PST tank base excavations.

Congratulations to Keira Schoolar, Buyer, on achieving her CIPS Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply.

Keira’s achievement marks an important milestone in her professional development and another step forward in her journey towards becoming Chartered.

Keira has shown considerable dedication throughout her studies, balancing her qualification alongside her role at Montel while continuing to develop her skills and knowledge within procurement.

Her continued development strengthens the expertise within our Procurement team and supports Keira as she continues to progress and build on the contribution she makes across Montel.

Earlswood: Severn Trent Water Directed Delivery Commercial Team Visit

Yesterday, the Earlswood project hosted members of the Severn Trent Water Directed Delivery Commercial Team for a site visit and update on progress.

The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the work being designed and delivered on behalf of Severn Trent, with the Montel project team leading a site tour and giving the team insight into the process equipment being installed, the progress being made and the challenges involved in getting the process equipment to site safely.

After an excellent few seasons, the Raptors are ready for their next challenge, moving into the U12 division and making the transition from 7v7 to 9-a-side football as they continue to grow and develop together.

Today marks Macmillan Coffee Morning, with people across the UK coming together to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. At Montel, we’re marking the day by celebrating some of the ways our people have supported Macmillan beyond the workplace.

At Montel, we’re proud to have people who give their own time to causes that matter to them, taking on personal challenges, organising fundraising events and bringing their communities together in support of Macmillan.

Across Team Montel, that support has taken many forms, from half marathons to charity golf days, all helping to raise funds for a cause that means so much to so many.

Next stop: BHSEA Annual Conference 2026.

This October, Colin Hailing, Head of HSEQT, will be representing Montel at the BHSEA Annual Conference 2026 in Solihull, joining health and safety professionals to explore this year’s theme, ‘Brave Conversations - Driving Safety Through Influence’.

Across the day, the focus will turn to something that sits at the heart of good health and safety: people. The sessions will explore leadership, self-awareness, difficult conversations and how positive influence can help create safer workplaces.

Taking those conversations beyond the Conference will be equally valuable, giving Colin the opportunity to reflect on the ideas shared, challenge thinking and consider how those lessons can support the work we’re already doing across Montel.
