🏡 Thinking about a new kitchen or creating a more open-plan home?

Whether you’re hoping for a kitchen refresh before Christmas, planning to knock through and create a bigger open-plan space, or already have architect’s drawings for an extension — we’d love to hear from you.

This beautiful kitchen formed part of a 3m x 6m extension we completed in the Bath area, completely transforming the way the home feels.

By opening up the rear of the property and bringing in so much more natural light, we were able to create a bright, spacious kitchen and living area that has become the real heart of the home. ☀️

You don’t need to have everything figured out before getting in touch. Whether you have full drawings ready to go or simply an idea of what you’d like to achieve, JMW Carpentry & Builders can help you work through the options and bring it to life.

🌳🪵 ONE BRIDGE COMPLETE… ONE MORE TO GO! 🪵🌳

And what a beauty she is! 😍

We’re delighted to share the first of two bespoke green oak bridges we’ve been working on at Jubilee Lake, Royal Wootton Bassett!

From carefully crafting the oak in our workshop to bringing everything together on site, it’s been a real labour of love for the JMW team.

Using traditional carpentry techniques, mortice and tenon joints and solid oak pegs, we’ve created something we’re incredibly proud of. A bridge that complements its beautiful woodland surroundings and celebrates traditional craftsmanship. 🌿

🔨 But we’re not finished yet!

We’ll be starting work on the second bridge next week, and we’re hoping everyone will love that one just as much as we love this beauty!

💬 Now we want to hear from YOU!

❤️ What do you think of the finished bridge?

🌳 Do you prefer the fresh, golden appearance of the oak, or are you looking forward to seeing it naturally weather into a beautiful silver-grey?

👇 Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear what the local community thinks.

And if you’re out enjoying Jubilee Lake, keep an eye out for our next transformation! 👀

Bridge project taking shape 🌳🔨

A really satisfying bit of progress on our bespoke green oak bridge project in Royal Wootton Bassett.

The first section of balustrading is now installed and it’s great to finally see all the workshop hours coming together on site.

This isn’t an off-the-shelf system. The oak balustrades have been designed and manufactured by our team, using traditional carpentry methods, mortice and tenon joints and oak pegs, before being carefully assembled and installed on site.

There’s still plenty to do — the opposite side, new oak GripDeck, finishing details and the remaining bridge works — but you can really start to see what the finished bridge is going to look like now.

We wanted these bridges to feel appropriate to their woodland surroundings while creating something strong, safe and built to last for years to come.

And we have a little JMW detail planned for the finished bridge too… 👀🪵

What do you think of it so far?

🪵 OILED OR NATURAL OAK — WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

One of the great things about oak is that you can take it in two completely different directions.

Applying an exterior oil helps protect the timber while bringing out those rich, warm tones and enhancing the natural grain. It does require ongoing maintenance and re-oiling to keep that fresh appearance.

Leaving oak untreated allows it to weather naturally. Over time, exposure to the elements gradually changes the colour to that beautiful silver-grey patina — with no need to keep chasing the original colour.

There’s no right or wrong answer — it really comes down to the look you prefer and how much maintenance you want to take on.

We’ve shown both finishes in the video 👆

👇 Which would you choose?

🟤 OILED — warm & rich
🩶 NATURAL — silver & weathered

Proud to share… I’ve passed!

Over the past few weeks I’ve been studying to become a Certified Passive House Tradesperson, and I’m incredibly proud to say…

I’ve officially passed.

This qualification isn’t about collecting certificates.

It’s about giving our clients greater confidence that we’re continually investing in the latest building science, construction methods and high-performance building techniques.

As builders, we have a responsibility to keep learning.

Homes are changing.

Clients are demanding healthier, more energy-efficient and more comfortable places to live—and rightly so.

Throughout this course I’ve gained a deeper understanding of:

✔ High-performance building envelopes
✔ Airtight construction and thermal bridge reduction
✔ Summer overheating prevention
✔ Ventilation and healthy indoor air quality
✔ Quality assurance on site
✔ The principles behind delivering genuinely low-energy homes

This doesn’t mean JMW is suddenly changing what we build.

It means we’re becoming even better at delivering extensions, renovations and new homes that perform exceptionally well for the families who live in them.

Over the coming months you’ll see us sharing far more content around:

• Passivhaus principles
• SIP panel construction
• Triple glazing
• Future-proof homes
• Energy efficiency
• Modern methods of construction
• Real projects we’ve delivered

Learning never stops—and neither does our ambition to raise the standard of what we build.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in the course and to our clients, who continue to trust us to deliver homes built for the future.

This is only the beginning.

🃏🎭 From a crazy idea… to carnival day.

6 weeks ago we started with timber, paint, screws, smoke machines and a vision to create something special for the people of Royal Wootton Bassett.

After countless late nights, laughs, stress, sawdust, problem solving and a whole lot of teamwork… yesterday we finally got to bring our 2026 carnival float to life at the Wootton Bassett Carnival.

Seeing the crowds lining the streets, hearing everyone cheering and watching the reactions to the Joker and Gotham themed float made every single hour worth it. 🦇💨🃏

A massive thank you to the Wootton Bassett Carnival committee for once again putting together such an incredible event for the whole community. The amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to make days like this happen is unbelievable, and the town should be very proud of what you all create year after year.

Thank you as well to everybody who came out to support the parade, wave, cheer, take photos and enjoy the experience with us. We truly hope our float brought smiles, excitement and a little bit of chaos to the streets of Bassett 😈

Until next year… 🎭

🎭🃏 “And here… we… go…”

This weekend is a BIG weekend for the community of Royal Wootton Bassett as the for 2026… and we cannot wait to finally reveal what we’ve been building behind the scenes. 🔥

Late nights… sawdust… paint… smoke… chaos… and just a little madness 🤡

We thought we would give everyone a very small glimpse of what’s in store this year… although The Joker wasn’t too happy about revealing his secrets early 👀💨

Heroes… villains… and a whole lot of mayhem is coming to Bassett this weekend.

Who’s ready for a little chaos? 🃏
