39 years ago today, the Great Storm of 1987 took place 💨

Here in the Sandlings Forests, 80% of the trees were blown down, 1477 hectares lost.

It took over two years to clear the storm damaged trees. The 480,000 tones of trees were stored at Lynford Water in Thetford Forest (seen in photo).

Rendlesham Forest rose like a Pheonix after the site was cleared and began to recover, which is what the Pheonix Trail is named after 🐦‍🔥

Please remember that picking or collecting fungi is not allowed anywhere in the Sandlings Forests due to its protected SSSI designation.
