π Laying turf in hot weather? Here are our top tips!
Warm, sunny weather is great for enjoying the garden, but it can make laying new turf more challenging. Fresh turf is a living product, so it needs to be laid quickly and watered well to give it the best start.
β
Prepare before delivery
Make sure the ground is level, lightly firmed and ready before your turf arrives.
β
Lay straight away
Do not leave rolls sitting in the sun. Turf can dry out quickly in warm weather, so lay it as soon as possible.
β
Dampen the soil first
Lightly water the prepared ground before laying to help stop the turf drying out underneath.
β
Water immediately after laying
Give your new lawn a thorough soak so the water reaches through to the soil below.
β
Keep watering daily
In hot weather, newly laid turf may need watering morning and evening, especially during the first few weeks.
β
Avoid the hottest part of the day
Where possible, lay turf early in the morning or later in the afternoon.
β
Stay off while it roots
Avoid walking on new turf until it has rooted properly.
With the right preparation and watering routine, your new lawn can establish beautifully, even in warmer weather.
