Just finished a bed, headboard shelf and side units. Wanted the shelf to look part of the wall to not crowd the room, so took inspiration from Mediterranean houses that build shelves and plinths into the walls.
Hid the lights, switches and sockets out of the way and managed to recycle an old Ikea cork desktop that I couldn’t bear to bin.
Wanted to make the bed and drawers feel like they were made from one chunk of wood, so it all didn’t look like planks nailed together. I love the grain in pine wood, and even got a Cookie Monster bedside table here, but it can go orange over time. Hopefully the varnish with white pigment I used will preserve the freshly cut Japandi look.
I read somewhere that floating furniture makes the room feel bigger, but at the very least there are now fewer things to bang my toe on in the morning.
