Another reason to get your stove checked yearly 🙌 New residents of this property and wanted me to check over the stove, as I was sweeping it through the stove I noticed the gasket around the inspection hatch had failed.

Its amazing what comes out of a chimney when swept properly.

100 years this has potentially been stuck somewhere in a "Big" chimney (and I mean big) - possibly dropped out of the pockets of a young child whilst sweeping at the chimney.

The weather is changing, and the phone hasn't stopped ringing today!

As the nights get colder, more people are getting their wood burners and open fires ready for the season.

I've been working in an area with terrible phone signal today, so answering calls hasn't been easy. I'm now trying to catch up with everyone by text while still out sweeping chimneys!

Please bear with me. I'm doing my best to answer calls, reply to texts and keep on top of my bookings while getting through the day's sweeps.

Look at the cobwebs on there!

🕸️ Can cobwebs stop carbon monoxide escaping up your chimney?

You might be surprised by what we find when sweeping a chimney.

Cobwebs can collect dust, soot and debris, but the webs themselves are unlikely to block a chimney or stop carbon monoxide escaping. However, a build-up of debris, soot, bird nests or other obstructions can restrict the flue and potentially allow dangerous gases to enter your home.

Carbon monoxide is colourless, odourless and potentially fatal. You cannot see it, smell it or taste it.

That's why regular chimney sweeping and proper maintenance are so important. A clear, well-maintained flue helps your appliance operate safely, but it doesn't replace the need for a working carbon monoxide alarm.

Don't leave chimney safety to chance.

This is why its important to get your chimney swept each year. Things like this may have gone unnoticed and the result would have been carbon monoxide escaping in to your room (the silent killer)

If you look closely at the video you will see soot escaping through the seal in the vit pipe.

HUSBAND & WIFE — BACK ON THE RODS!

It’s that time of year again… me and the wife are back on the rods for our second year together!

Two people. One chimney. Plenty of soot. And somehow we’re still married. 😂

She’s getting pretty good at handling the rods now… although I’m still in charge of the sweeping!

There’s something strangely satisfying about working together, getting stuck into a proper dirty chimney and leaving it clean, safe and ready for the winter.

So if your chimney is due a sweep, don’t leave it until the first cold night when you decide you suddenly really need that fire!

Whats caused this kinda soot? ..... do you know?

Stage 2 soot — do you know what actually creates it?

Stage 2 soot is often the result of incomplete combustion. When a stove or fire isn’t burning efficiently, it can produce more smoke, tar and soot.

Common causes include:

• Burning wood that isn’t properly seasoned
• Running the stove with the air controls closed down too far
• Slumbering the fire for long periods
• Poor airflow or ventilation
• Burning unsuitable materials
• Operating the appliance at too low a temperature

That soot and tar can build up inside the flue over time.

This is why regular sweeping and using your appliance correctly are so important.

A clean flue is one thing — burning your appliance correctly is what helps keep it that way.
