Contracts & Operations Manager

G & S Joinery & Insulation is looking for an experienced Contracts & Operations Manager to take responsibility for organising, coordinating and overseeing our growing workload of joinery, internal wall insulation, retrofit and construction projects.
This is a hands-on management position for someone who can keep jobs organised, keep our teams moving and make sure every project is completed to a high standard.
The role
You will be responsible for managing jobs from booking through to completion, including:
- Scheduling and booking jobs and allocating teams.
- Maintaining a live schedule of all current and upcoming projects.
- Keeping track of where every team is working and the progress of each job.
- Liaising with customers and keeping them updated.
- Coordinating joiners, subcontractors and other trades.
- Carrying out regular site visits and quality-control checks.
- Checking workmanship and identifying issues before the customer does.
- Producing and managing snagging lists.
- Making sure snags are allocated and completed.
- Taking progress and completion photographs.
- Checking that jobs are ready for final sign-off.
- Making sure paperwork, photographs and relevant documentation are completed.
- Reporting progress, problems and delays to the directors.
- Helping improve our systems so that jobs are properly tracked rather than relying on paperwork and messages.
- Working closely with the directors to keep the business running efficiently.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone with strong construction experience and proven management/coordination ability.
You should be:
- Highly organised and able to manage multiple jobs at once.
- Confident dealing with tradesmen, customers and subcontractors.
- Comfortable visiting construction sites and inspecting workmanship.
- Able to identify poor workmanship and understand construction snagging.
- Good with phones, tablets, email and job-management software.
- A strong communicator who isn't afraid to chase people and get jobs finished.
- Able to work independently and make decisions.
- Commercially aware and able to understand deadlines, labour and job costs.
- Experienced in construction, joinery, insulation, retrofit, building or a related trade.
The ideal candidate
The ideal person will have previously worked as a Contracts Manager, Site Manager, Construction Manager, Project Manager, Contracts Supervisor or experienced Construction Coordinator.
A trade background would be highly beneficial.
You don't need to be the person physically carrying out the work — your job is to make sure the right people are in the right place, the work is done properly, problems are picked up early and every job gets finished and signed off.
Salary
£50,000 per year, depending on experience.
Company vehicle/vehicle allowance and other benefits can be discussed with the successful candidate.
