Older properties like to throw a few surprises at you. This kitchen kept us on our toes, but there’s always a solution.

A lovely review from Clare and a finished kitchen we’re proud to put our name to. Thanks for trusting Tom, Kian and the team with it.

Low ceiling, tight fit, usual cottage problems.

A little masking tape trick to save some swearing when fitting the wall units. Tip of the day from TJI.

You’ve seen the messy bit. Here’s what it was all for.

The Buckinghamshire cottage kitchen, finished and ready to use.

New cabinetry, Brampton Chase herringbone LVT in Heather Grey and solid oak floating shelves with LED lighting routed into the underside. A fresh look that still feels at home in an old cottage.

Getting here took more than swapping a few cupboards. With the failed floor removed and the preparation properly sorted, the client knows what’s underneath looks after what’s on top.

Been following from the rip-out? Let us know what you think of the finished kitchen.

All that prep, and now you can see why.

The herringbone LVT is going down at the Buckinghamshire cottage, bringing the new kitchen another step closer.

Brampton Chase Studio Designs in Heather Grey, supplied and fitted using ARDEX AF 195. Plenty of setting out and careful cuts to keep that pattern running right around the room.

You’ve seen what went into the floor underneath. Here’s what goes on top.

Next up on the cottage kitchen: the DPM sandwich.

One coat of ARDEX NA, followed by ARDEX DPM 1 C to control moisture, then another coat of NA over the top. The reel takes you through the application, from mixing to the final smoothing coat.

With plenty to put right in this old floor, getting this stage sorted was essential before fitting the new flooring.

Next up, the herringbone LVT.

Kitchen out. Time to sort what’s underneath.

The old latex had failed, so we removed it and ground the floor back before starting fresh with .

ARDEX NA, followed by DPM 1 C to control moisture, then another coat of NA. A proper base ready for the new herringbone LVT.

Plenty of work before a single plank goes down, but a good floor starts underneath.

Before the new kitchen comes the messy bit.

Full rip-out on this old cottage, with plenty to put right underneath. The existing latex had failed, so out it came, ready for grinding and a proper floor prep using ARDEX NA and DPM 1 C.

It’s the work you won’t see in the finished photos that makes all the difference.

Follow along for the transformation.
