Apparently, football fans are very predictable ⚽

During England’s opening World Cup match against Croatia, electricity demand across Great Britain rose by around 500MW at half-time - roughly the equivalent of nearly 170,000 kettles switching on at once.

Then demand climbed again by another 170MW at full-time as viewers headed back to the kitchen.

A nation united by football… and the need for a cup of tea 🍵

It’s a fun example, but it makes a serious point: when we use electricity matters ⚡

As more of our heating, transport and everyday lives become electric, we need technologies that can use energy more flexibly - drawing power when demand is lower, storing it, and making it available when people need it.

Because electrification isn’t just about using more electricity. It’s about using it better 🌎

One underrated thing about the ZEB? It feels like part of the home.

Yes, it’s there to heat the house. But once it’s installed, our customers sometimes notice the smaller everyday things too.

🏠 A bit of gentle background warmth in the room.
👕 Handy when the laundry is drying indoors.
🐶 Or, in this case, prime dog bed territory.

And because it’s designed to fit inside the home, it can sit neatly alongside the everyday bits of family life - more like a white good than a traditional boiler hidden away in a cupboard.

It’s the kind of thing you only really notice once the ZEB is installed. It doesn’t feel like a big piece of “new technology”. It just quietly gets on with the job

Not everyone wants a heat pump. Maybe their home isn’t suitable. Or maybe they just don’t fancy the faff of a bigger retrofit.

That’s why it was lovely to visit one of our customers recently and hear, in their own words, what it was like replacing their gas boiler with a ZEB heat battery boiler.

For them, the switch meant familiar central heating, no outdoor unit, and a practical, easy route away from gas.

Some installs need a bit of extra thinking.

This one involved a first-floor flat, a steep staircase, a tight route in, and an old gas back boiler that, in the homeowner’s words, “had to go.”

A heat pump was not the right fit for the property, but the homeowner still wanted to move away from gas. So, working with our tepeoPRO installer partner Brimstone Energy, we helped find another way.

With careful planning, a bit of problem-solving, and our Domino stair-climbing robot 🤖, the team safely guided the ZEB heat battery boiler up some very steep stairs and into its new home: neatly tucked away in a cupboard.

Toby, the homeowner, said: “I came back from work, and it was in. They did a quality job - I don’t know how they managed to do it so neatly.”

We love a challenge like this. This is why we work so closely with our trusted installers. Some homes need a little more problem-solving than others. That is where working with the right installer makes all the difference.

Can you swap a gas boiler for a zero-emission alternative without a major home overhaul? 🏡

Hampshire homeowner Phil did exactly that with a tepeo heat battery boiler. It integrates perfectly with his solar setup and runs so silently that it sits right inside his wife's home massage studio completely unnoticed by clients.

The installation has been such a success that local MP Damian Hinds recently visited Phil’s home to learn more about heat battery technology and see it in action.

What a first day at Everything Electric Harrogate ⚡️

We had such a brilliant time chatting to so many people about our heat battery boiler, the ZEB, as an option for replacing oil and gas boilers, and what the options are when a heat pump might not be the right fit.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by the tepeo stand. Damien, Chris, John, Johan and Verity loved meeting you all and hearing your stories, and we're pleased to be able to continue offering our solutions across England and Wales.

We’re also feeling very proud of the stand itself. Rich and Jacob built the wooden stand back at our unit, including putting the vinyl on by hand. A real team effort and made with love, the tepeo way.

It was also inspiring to see our CEO Johan du Plessis on the Warm Homes Plan panel too, and lovely to have some of the audience come over afterwards to carry on the conversation.

The whole event has been full of energy (pun intended) with EVs from MG, Nissan, Geely, Tesla and Morris Commercial and other stands like Tewke, So Energy, Eleven Energy, Flit and so much more. It was also lovely to see the Octopus Energy team there. We’re proud to be an Octopus “Works with” partner, helping more homes make smarter use of electricity for heating.

And it was, of course, lovely to see Robert Llewellyn again - a long-time ZEB owner and supporter.
