Halloween is just around the corner and lots of people flock to the streets trick-or-treating and showing off their Haloween costumes. Research shows that vandalism to properties sadly also goes up Halloween night. Here are a few steps you can take to keep your home and trick-or-treaters safe.

Make sure your front door sensor light is working. This will help you see the amazing costumes children are wearing and deter any unwanted trick-or-treaters.

To keep little trick-or-treaters safe, make sure your pumpkins are lit with LED candles and not real ones.

Be sure to lock your front door! When you leave your property empty for Halloween evening make sure all your windows and doors are locked and if you have any keys hiding in plant pots, bring them in and place them out of sight.

If you have a garden shed full of expensive garden tools etc. make sure the shed is locked or remove any valuable items elsewhere for safe keeping.

If you are leaving your property empty for Halloween, speak to your neighbours and ask them to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity.

It is also a good idea to double check your home insurance is up to date.

Do you know what your home insurance covers?
