The practice, Adam Knibb Architects was established out of a desire to produce, design, rationalise and deliver architecture that would enhance the ideas and aspirations of each client. Having gained wide experience in the field, the practice has been developed to produce architecture that can respond to individual requirements and sites, whilst focusing on contemporary sculptured forms but also backed up with sustainable technology. Adam Knibb Architects prides itself on designing contemporary sustainable architecture. Based in Winchester with a small but well formed team the office engages with various clients from multiple housing units (developer lead), to large one-off bespoke houses and to smaller extensions / refurbishments. Adam Knibb Architects is an award-winning, architectural studio, that believes in creating thought-provoking and well-crafted architectural projects.

Ceiling height matters

Why do some rooms just feel better?

It's not always about size. Ceiling height, proportions and natural light all influence how a space feels.

Sometimes adding half a metre of height can make more difference than adding several square metres of floor area.

Reimagining an existing home - introducing Horwood House

Horwood House is a substantial transformation of an existing stone house in Northamptonshire, combining sensitive refurbishment with a series of contemporary extensions.

The original house had evolved through a number of additions, leaving a fragmented layout and disconnected living spaces. The project brings the home together again, creating a more coherent relationship between the kitchen, dining and living spaces and strengthening its connection with the garden.

Stone, timber and expansive glazing balance the character of the existing house with a more contemporary architectural language, while carefully considered landscaping completes the transformation.

Currently in construction, Horwood House is taking shape as a home designed around how its owners want to live, relax and entertain.

Daylight vs sunlight

They're not the same thing.

A bright home doesn't necessarily need direct sun pouring through every window. Architects think about daylight, orientation and how light moves through a building over the course of the day.

The goal isn't just a sunny room - it's a comfortable one.

Introducing Jasmine House | Curdridge, Hampshire

Set within three acres of paddocks, mature trees and established hedgerows, Jasmine House is undergoing a substantial transformation to create a contemporary family home closely connected to its rural setting.

Our design reimagines the house around the landscape, introducing generous living spaces, carefully framed views, natural light and a distinctive material palette of brick, charred timber and Corten steel.

Currently under construction, the project is beginning to take shape — and we look forward to sharing more as the house develops.

We’re delighted to share that Cakeham House has won Extension of the Year (up to 2,500 sq ft) at the 2026 British Homes Awards.

It’s fantastic to see this project recognised, and a wonderful result for our clients and everyone involved in bringing Cakeham House to life.

The project transforms a late-Victorian cottage in West Wittering, creating a light-filled, energy-efficient home with a strong connection to the garden.

15 Years | 15 Favourite Projects | #15 Looking Back, Looking Forward

Over the past few months, we've revisited 15 projects that have helped define the first 15 years of Adam Knibb Architects. Choosing just 15 was never easy. Every project has presented different challenges, different clients and different opportunities to learn.

Looking back through the series, a common thread emerges. Whether designing a contemporary new-build, extending a listed building or transforming a family home, our approach has remained remarkably consistent: to listen carefully, respond thoughtfully and create architecture that is rooted in its place and the people who will live there.

We've celebrated projects that overcame constraints, embraced sustainability, respected heritage and connected homes more closely with their landscapes. While each is different, together they tell the story of a practice that believes good architecture is never about following a style - it is about finding the right solution.

Most importantly, none of these projects would have happened without the trust of our clients and the collaboration of talented consultants, contractors and craftspeople. We are grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey.

Fifteen years is an important milestone, but it is also just a point in time. We look forward to continuing to design homes and places that inspire, challenge and endure—and to seeing where the next 15 years take us.

Set within the Hampshire countryside, this seven-bedroom farmhouse has been thoughtfully transformed into a light-filled contemporary retreat, balancing modern country living with the character of its rural setting.

15 Years | 15 Favourite Projects | #14 Summers House

As we celebrate 15 years of Adam Knibb Architects, we're revisiting 15 projects that have helped define our journey. The fourteenth in our series is Summers House - a project that represents the careful refinement of an existing home into something far more coherent, generous and complete.

Originally a 1930s property that had been altered and extended over time, the house had become fragmented, with spaces that no longer worked together as a unified home. Our approach was to restore clarity - rationalising the layout, strengthening connections between rooms and re-establishing a clear relationship between the house, garden and wider landscape.

A significant new extension and pool house complete the transformation, introducing contemporary living spaces designed for modern family life and entertaining. The design carefully balances old and new, combining traditional materials such as brick and flint with crisp contemporary detailing and expansive glazing that opens the home to its surroundings.

Interiors and architecture were developed in parallel, ensuring a consistent material and spatial language throughout. The result is a calm, cohesive home that feels both familiar and renewed - rooted in its history but fully adapted for contemporary living.

Looking back, Summers House reminds us that great residential architecture is not always about starting again. Sometimes it is about understanding what already exists, removing what no longer works, and allowing a house to become the best version of itself.

What a night! 🥂
