NC Architecture are delighted to have achieved planning permission for the South Cheshire Amateur Boxing Club. SCABC Boxing Gym is part of the Crewe Towns Fund project and the ‘Crewe Youth Zone’.
This fantastic project has been collaborative with the Trustees of Crewe Youth Club and wider design team and consultants. Crewe Youth Club (C*C) held various workshops with SCABC to discuss how the facility would be used day to day. These workshops have enabled us to develop the concept design further, with the end users at the core of decision making.
The design includes a total of 658 sqm of floorspace which includes a mezzanine towards the front entrance. Externally a parking and drop off area creates 30 parking spaces which include 4 EV charging and disabled parking spaces.
The scheme uses a combination of traditional and contemporary materials, creating a modern interpretation of an agricultural barn. Due to the dense playing fields/green space surrounding the site, the scheme is finished with charred timber cladding. Bright orange aluminium window frames are also used adding, a pop of colour and vibrancy to the building, appropriate for the target audience. Colourful handmade shingles are used to add an element of warmth to the scheme and to give the community a sense of ownership over the club.
A dedicated area on the entrance elevation, visible from the site access will be offered for mural art envisaged to be a collaboration with schools and local artists.
