People Trust People. That's Why Recommendations Mean So Much to Us.

At Tudor Design & Build, some of our favourite projects start with a simple sentence:

"Our neighbour recommended you."

When someone is investing in their home, trust is everything. That's why we work hard to look after every client from the very first conversation through to the finished build, keeping communication clear, delivering quality workmanship, and making the whole process as smooth as possible.

What we're most proud of isn't just the projects we complete, it's the relationships we build along the way. Many of our clients come back to us for future projects and continue recommending us to friends, family, and neighbours years later.

Those recommendations are the greatest compliment we can receive, and they're a huge part of why our business continues to grow.

If we've worked together, thank you for your support. And if you hear someone talking about an extension, renovation, or home improvement project, we'd be grateful if you'd point them in our direction.

How much extra space is hiding in your home right now?

If your garage has become a place to store boxes, bikes and everything else that doesn't quite fit in the house, it might be time to look at it a little differently.

A professionally designed garage conversion could not only give you the extra room your family needs, but it could also increase the value of your property by up to 10–20%, depending on the location, design and quality of the work.

Imagine transforming that underused space into a home office, family room, gym, utility room, guest suite or even a playroom – all without sacrificing your garden or the cost and disruption of moving house.

At Tudor Design & Build, we help homeowners unlock the full potential of their homes by creating beautifully finished spaces that feel like they've always belonged. From the initial design through to the final finishing touches, we'll guide you through every stage of the project.

If you had a spare room tomorrow, what would you use it for? Let us know in the comments – we'd love to hear your ideas.

If you're ready to make better use of the space you already have, get in touch with the team today to find out what's possible.

Planning an extension or refurbishment? It's the perfect opportunity to make your home more energy efficient.

Many homeowners focus on the additional space or the finished look, but some of the biggest long-term savings come from the decisions you make during the build itself.

Here are a few upgrades worth considering:

• High-performance insulation in walls, floors and roofs to keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
• Triple glazing or modern energy-efficient double glazing to reduce heat loss while making rooms quieter and more comfortable.
• Underfloor heating, which works efficiently at lower temperatures and pairs particularly well with heat pumps.
• Air source heat pumps, an increasingly popular alternative to traditional gas boilers for lower-carbon heating.
• Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR), which provides fresh, filtered air whilst recovering heat that would otherwise be lost.
• Solar panels and battery storage, allowing you to generate and store your own electricity for greater energy independence.
• Smart heating controls and zoned systems, so you're only heating the rooms you're actually using.
• Energy-efficient lighting and appliances, which may seem like small changes but can make a noticeable difference over time.

The best results come when these features are considered at the design stage, rather than added as an afterthought. A well-planned refurbishment doesn't just transform how your home looks – it can reduce running costs, improve comfort throughout the year and add value for years to come.

If you're planning a home extension, renovation or refurbishment in Hertfordshire, we'd be happy to discuss how energy-efficient design can be incorporated into your project from day one.

Before you start building in a historic city like St Albans, there's something else to consider alongside planning permission and building regulations – archaeology.

Depending on where your property is located, your planning conditions may require you to seek clearance from the Archaeological Department before any excavation work begins. In other cases, your decision notice may simply confirm that no archaeological notification is required. Either way, it's worth understanding what could be beneath your feet.

On one of our recent projects last week, while excavating below an existing basement, we uncovered what appeared to be bones and fragments of pottery. As required, we immediately stopped work and informed the council. An archaeological representative attended site to inspect the findings and assess the area before any further work could continue.

Fortunately, on this occasion the discoveries were not deemed to be of archaeological significance, and we were given the go-ahead to resume construction. However, it serves as a reminder that when you're building in a city with over 2,000 years of history, unexpected discoveries can happen.

At Tudor Design & Build, we're experienced in managing every stage of the building process, including the unexpected. If you're planning an extension, renovation or new build in St Albans or the surrounding area, we'll help ensure your project progresses smoothly while meeting all planning and heritage requirements.

Have you ever uncovered something unexpected during a home renovation or garden project? We'd love to hear your stories.

Project Update: Conservatory Transformation Underway...

This week we’ve made great progress on this conservatory upgrade project for our clients, who wanted to breathe new life into their dated space while keeping the beautiful countryside views beyond their garden.

The new structure is now up, with internal tiling about to begin, and the existing sides have been stripped back ready for the installation of new cladding — bringing the whole space up to date both inside and out.

Converting your conservatory is a fantastic way to make the most of the space you already have, creating a comfortable, practical room that can be enjoyed all year round — whatever the weather.

We can’t wait to share the finished transformation!
