Towens provide waste management and construction services to trade and home owners - Southwest area.

We handle well over half a million tonnes of waste and recycled aggregate per year. Here at Towens we are proud of our history and record in waste management and construction services, our association with Weston Super Mare, its business council and residents. Mainarea Ltd trading as Towens of Weston began on 14th July1992 from a small yard on the Weston Europark. We did pretty much anything in the early days, except skips as Andy Towens was not permitted to compete with his previous employer under the terms of his severance. At this time Woodspring District were very supportive finding various civil engineering works for us to carry out. In 1994 Towens merged with C-T plant a local plant hire company and the operation was moved to a small depot on Rectors way. In 1997 we purchased two plots of land in Warne Road, moved in and began the skip side of the business. Soon after the millennium we were able to purchase some of the old Hutton Moor allotment land which backed onto our plot and it is this site that we occupy today. In 2002 following 8 years of steady growth Mainarea Ltd changed to the two operating companies Towens of Weston Ltd and Towens Waste Management Ltd that you see today. We handle well over half a million tonnes of waste and recycled aggregate per year and have developed the site into a fully functioning trade waste processing and recycling facility. In 2012 we were successful in purchasing the old council transport depot opposite our main site and expanded our operation further. 2015 saw the completion of our own vehicle maintenance workshop on the site of one of the original 2 plots purchased in 1997 and the formation of Towens Fleet Services Ltd.

We've been keeping something from you.

We have welcomed two new additions to the Towens family... Meet Rolo and Skip

Meet our brand new RoRo lorry, now out on the road carrying RoRo bins from 20 to 40 yards, each one capable of handling up to approximately 15 tonnes!

And our latest addition... a new skip lorry. Our skips have been in high demand this year, so we've strengthened the fleet with an 18-tonne skip wagon fitted with brand-new lifting gear, capable of handling everything from 2 to 16 yard skips!

Whether it's a small job or a big one, this lorry's got it covered.

See a Towens vehicle out on the road? Give us a wave! 👋

Ever wondered what actually happens to a skip full of rubble once it leaves your site?

It gets crushed, screened, and sorted, oils and contaminants stripped out, then graded down to size. What comes out the other end is recycled aggregate, topsoil, and road plannings ready to go straight back into use.

Less than 10% of everything we process ends up as landfill. The rest gets a second life.

We've written the full process up in our latest blog, well worth a read.

Doing groundworks and not sure what's in the soil? That's where we come in.

Our environmental team takes samples straight from your site and gets them tested at accredited labs, covering things like WAC, asbestos identification, and more depending on what your job needs.

Once the results come back, we tell you what they mean and what your options are for treatment or disposal, so there's no guesswork on your end.

Get in touch if you need soil testing sorted for an upcoming job.

Feedback like this is why we work the way we do.

On a recent project, we project-managed the job from start to finish and delivered the groundworks, drainage and aggregates, working alongside the project consultants TSA Riley to keep everything moving.

"Luke and his team were approachable, responsive and committed to finding solutions when challenges arose. They worked collaboratively with all parties to keep the works progressing, and we value their contribution to the successful delivery of the project."

We are proud to have played a part in this summer project.

Towens delivered the soil for The Campus BMX track improvement, helping make the track more accessible while adding a greater challenge for riders. 16 local young people worked alongside experienced track designers to get it done, on a hot day that took some serious effort from everyone involved.

Great to see organisations coming together to give something back to the local community.

Head over to The Campus's page for the full story and photos from the day.

A great year for the junior sides at Lympsham & Belvedere Cricket Club, with 3 league wins this season 🏆

Celebrated in style at their Presentation Evening, where they also handed over a cheque for £663 to In Charley's Memory.

We're proud to sponsor such young talent and to see them have such a fantastic season. A massive well done to everyone involved.

Today is National Family Business Day, and we're proud to fly the flag.

Over 30 years running, still family owned, still based right here in Somerset. But it's not just the Towens name that makes us a family business. Some of our team have been with us for years, and along the way they've become part of the family too.

That's what we think family business really means. Not just who owns it, but who sticks around and helps build it.

Happy National Family Business Day to every other family run business out there today.

Concrete, steel, and no shortage of hard work. That's what it took to break out this damaged weighbridge at Bristol Waste's city centre depot, clearing the way for a new one to go in.

Jobs like this are exactly what we do best, the groundwork that keeps a busy site moving.

Got breakout or demolition work coming up? Give us a call.
