🏡 **TRADITIONAL SASH WINDOW RESTORATION | LISTED PROPERTY**

**Repair. Preserve. Restore.**

Lees Building Contractors Ltd have recently been carrying out specialist restoration work to the **original timber sash windows of this listed property**.

Years of exposure to the British weather had resulted in significant deterioration to sections of the timber frames and window sills. But with historic and listed properties, replacement isn't necessarily the answer.

Wherever practical, our approach is to **retain as much of the original building fabric as possible**.

Rather than removing and replacing the complete sash windows, our team carefully identified the areas affected by decay, removed defective timber and carried out **traditional hardwood scarf repairs** — replacing only those sections that were beyond repair.

For smaller areas of deterioration, we have also used the specialist **Repair Care timber repair system**, helping us preserve even more of the existing joinery while creating a durable repair ready for preparation and decoration.

🔨 **The restoration process includes:**

✔ Careful assessment of the existing sash windows
✔ Removal of decayed and defective timber
✔ Traditional hardwood scarf repairs
✔ Specialist timber repair systems where appropriate
✔ Retention of original joinery wherever possible
✔ Preparation for professional finishing and decoration
✔ Preservation of the property's traditional appearance

Once the restoration and decoration are complete, these original sash windows should have **many more years of useful life ahead of them** while continuing to contribute to the architectural character of the property.

Projects like this demonstrate why restoration is very different from straightforward replacement.

It requires patience, an understanding of traditional construction and skilled craftsmanship to preserve historic features while incorporating modern repair techniques where they provide a genuine benefit.
