In this month's Airedale Monthly, we install every type of fencing including roll top mesh, steel palisade, Vmesh, Twin wire, cranked post fencing. Each job this summer holidays was unique and required a different type of fencing, with some jobs proving far more challenging than others.

Eighteen school sites in six weeks.

That is what Airedale Fencing got through in the summer holidays: seven schools in one trust all serviced and force tested in four days, new perimeter fencing and gates across Bradford, Leeds and Bingley, a MUGA rebuild, and a full gate automation and access control installation at Oastlers School in Bradford.

Every automated gate handed over with a full technical file, force tested to BS EN 12453.

Schools go back tomorrow and the new financial year starts today. If something has been on your list since last summer, this is the week to get it costed.

Automatic gates for a Bradford school, and the paperwork that goes with them.

We have written up the Oastlers School job on our website. Two automated gates and a third access controlled pedestrian gate, all running on Paxton access control and tied into the fire alarm so they release if it goes off.

An automated gate is legally classed as machinery, and under PUWER the duty to keep it safe sits with the school or the trust, not the installer. So every gate was force tested to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a full technical file, not just a certificate.

If you look after a school site and you are not sure when your gates were last force tested, that is worth knowing before somebody else asks.

New Airedale Monthly is up.

Several school jobs this month, twin wire mesh round the perimeters and roll top mesh closer to the buildings for the walkways. Some seriously hard digging, and one slope that had us questioning our life choices.

Have a watch:

This fence post had been in the ground about eighteen months. That is what it looked like when we dug it out.

A school in Keighley called us because the fencing round their MUGA was leaning and moving. Barely eighteen months old. Rather than just straighten it, we dug trial holes to find out why.

Two answers. The posts had been set shallow with next to no concrete. And the holes kept filling with water, because the tarmac court was holding it underneath with nowhere to drain.

So the drainage got fixed first, then the fence got straightened and strengthened, and one side went up from 2.4m to 3.6m because the kids kept putting footballs in the farmer's field next door. Extra struts along that side to carry the height.

Fixing the fence is easy. Fixing the reason it broke is the bit that lasts.

Full story on the website:

The mesh fencing round a Keighley school MUGA was leaning after 18 months. Here is what the trial holes showed, and why the drainage was fixed first.

Does your school gate get force tested?

Most people are surprised to learn that an automated gate is legally a machine, which means it falls under the same regulations as any other powered work equipment. The things that keep it safe are mostly invisible, so a gate can quietly stop being compliant while still opening and closing perfectly well.

We have put together a plain English guide for schools: what should be on your service certificate, what a compliant gate looks like, and five questions worth asking your site manager. No prices, no sales pitch.

In this month's video, watch as our team complete multiple fence installations across several schools. We've been installing a good balance of twin wire mesh around the perimeter and 1.2m roll top mesh closer to the buildings to establish walkways. A lot of the jobs this month proved to be much more difficult than anticipated with a lot of the ground being extremely tough to dig. If you like what we do, please like, comment and subscribe! 😁👍

They may not look like much but extensions like these can make a big difference to the secuirty of your premises. This school had a problem of kids climbing over the fence but these extensions that are cranked over the mesh fencing will act as a great deterrent.
