🦺 EDINBURGH PROJECT – BACK UNDERWAY!

Great to have the team back on our Edinburgh project and making good progress. 💪

This has certainly been one of the more challenging projects we’ve taken on. The steep gradient of the garden, difficult ground conditions and existing boundary wall foundations being higher than originally indicated have all required careful consideration as the works have progressed.

Rather than taking any chances, we’ve worked alongside the structural engineer to assess the existing conditions and make the necessary design changes, ensuring the retaining structures are constructed correctly and, most importantly, safely. ✅

We’re taking this project methodically, one stage at a time, and it’s great to now see the different levels of the garden beginning to take shape.

🔨 Structural details adjusted to suit the actual site conditions
🔨 Ground preparation continuing for the next stages

Next week will be a big step forward, with the buff sandstone wall cladding arriving and installation beginning.

We’ve also got Country Buff paving, matching bullnose steps and copings still to come, which will completely transform the appearance of the blockwork and start bringing the finished design together. 👌

A lot of work has gone into what will eventually be hidden beneath the finished landscaping — but getting the groundwork and structure right is what makes the finished job last.

🏡 UPHALL GARDEN TRANSFORMATION – COMPLETE! 🏡

What a difference! 👌

We’ve now completed our Uphall garden project, transforming a tired and dated outdoor space into a clean, modern and much more usable garden.

The old rotten decking, gravel and existing pathway were completely stripped out before rebuilding the garden from the ground up.

✅ Old decking & gravel removed
✅ Existing paving and pathway removed
✅ New Indian sandstone paving installed
✅ New raised patio area created
✅ Lower-level paved seating area
✅ Sandstone border surrounding the garden
✅ Artificial grass centrepiece installed
✅ New timber fencing installed
✅ Steps and level changes formed to tie everything together
✅ Full clean-down to finish

The mix of natural sandstone and artificial grass has completely changed the space, while the raised patio keeps the original two-level layout but gives it a much cleaner finish.

🚧 NEW PROJECT STARTED – UPHALL 🚧

With our Edinburgh project on hold for a week while we wait for materials to arrive, we’ve taken the opportunity to get started on another garden transformation a little closer to home in Uphall. 👷‍♂️

This garden is getting a complete new look, including:

🔨 Removal of the old timber decking
🔨 Removal of existing gravel and old pathway
🧱 New paving throughout
🏡 New raised paved patio area
🧱 Lower-level paved border
🌱 Artificial grass centrepiece
✨ A much cleaner, modern and more usable garden layout

Demolition and strip-out started this morning and the team have already made great progress.

The existing decking has started coming out and we’re getting the area cleared ready for the groundwork and preparation stages.

Looking forward to seeing this one take shape over the coming week — the before-and-after should be a good one! 💪

🚧 WEEK 1 PROJECT UPDATE – CHALLENGING GROUND CONDITIONS 🚧

It’s been a challenging first week on site, but we’re making good progress. 💪

The steep fall of the garden was always going to make this an interesting project, but once excavation began we also uncovered large areas of sandstone buried within the ground. Removing sections of this, combined with the slope, has created some difficult and unstable ground conditions.

Safety comes first, so where it hasn’t been safe to take the excavator into the deepest section, the team have switched to hand excavation rather than taking unnecessary risks.

Despite the challenges, we’ve made solid progress this week:

✅ Major site clearance completed
✅ Excavation and levels progressing
✅ Large buried sandstone encountered and worked around
✅ Ground conditions continually assessed as excavation progresses
✅ Majority of the first retaining-wall foundation excavated
✅ Remaining foundation excavation planned for Monday
✅ Concrete foundation targeted for Tuesday
✅ Bricklayers then ready to begin the first blockwork retaining wall

Getting that first retaining wall constructed will be a major milestone. It will allow us to start securing the lower level, improve the working conditions and really begin to see the new garden taking shape.

Projects like this aren’t always straightforward, and sometimes the ground tells you what you’re dealing with only once excavation starts.
