Over the last four weeks, our MDB Green Climber LV500 has been hard at work tackling heavy bracken using both our flail and bruiser attachments.

While every site is different, here’s why we often recommend bruising over cutting:

• Bleeds the Root: Cutting triggers aggressive regrowth. Rolling crushes and fractures the stems without severing them, forcing the plant to bleed sap and exhaust its underground root reserves.

• Safer for Soil & Wildlife: Rolling creates a protective mulch layer that prevents erosion and keeps airborne spores lower to the ground.

• Long-Term Control: Consistent bruising over 2–3 seasons permanently weakens the stand, making full land reclamation much easier.

Timing is key! As we reach the end of the current season Stephen is finishing off the last few jobs and clients are already booking with us for next year.

After a couple of years away, Treeline are delighted to be returning to Peebles Show this Saturday 15th August. We’ll be bringing a selection of our fencing materials, knowledgeable staff, and possibly a beer or two. Fingers crossed for the same weather we had in 2022, minus the heatstroke.

As the UK dealer for Malwa forestry machinery, Treeline is uniquely positioned to demonstrate both the Malwa 980 Harvester and 560F Forwarder working in tandem on our own harvesting sites, showcasing their capabilities in real-world forestry operations.

The Malwa 980 is an eight-wheel harvester weighing less than 10 tonnes and measuring just 2.2m wide. Fitted with a Log Max 3000T harvesting head, it offers a cutting capacity of up to 52cm in diameter. Powered by a 173hp CAT engine with triple hydraulic pumps, the 980 enables contractors to carry out commercial thinning operations efficiently and economically, without the need to switch to larger, heavier machines.

The Malwa 560F Forwarder has a payload capacity of 5,500kg while weighing just 5,600kg, making it ideal for sensitive ground conditions. At only 1.95m wide, it is perfectly suited to in-stand thinning, where minimising ground disturbance and stand damage is essential.

Malwa's compact forestry machines deliver measurable advantages for low-impact thinning and sustainable forest management. According to the manufacturer, thinning trials have shown that Malwa machines can leave between 100 and 200 more trees per hectare undamaged than larger conventional machines.

The MDB Green Climber LV500 Pro has been hard at work tackling dense bracken this summer, making light work of challenging terrain and helping keep land accessible and well managed.

While summer cutting is effective for controlling growth, the ideal time to tackle bracken is actually early spring. Cutting when the fronds are just emerging helps weaken the plant before it can fully develop, reducing its vigour and making long-term control more effective.
