The knock knock tree got knock knocked over.

Sometimes you’re uncertain when removing a tree … Are we making the right decision? Will it be decayed?

This one was a no brainer. Glad it’s down!

Great to be on the tools today with my boy, showing him what the old man used to do 😉

Some great close up images of features found on a recent climbing inspection. Each feature tells its own story.

Crown decline - more often that not root related.

Cubicle brown rot - Leading to a loss of tensile strength

Decay columns - From historic, large pruning wounds

Woodpecker holes - historic pruning wounds, hollowed out for a home

Have you got any features like this in your tree?
Are you unsure if its a problem or not?

Drop us a line and we can come and take a look.

When the Poplar was no longer Popular

This old tree was on it last legs and close to a busy school. We applied for the tree to be removed and planned the works to be carried out in the school holidays.

The tree being on the boundary was a dream for the crane truck.

Smooth operations from Matt made Dylans life easy in the tree and George's life simple keeping the truck filled on the deck.

Great to have Daniel join the team.

He's been with us a few weeks now and is settling great.

Daniel joins us with great experience and can happily take on those complex jobs. A keen biker Daniel can often be found at the bike park or at a track, honing his skills.

He'll shorlty be leaving us for a few weeks of paternity leave as he and his partner are expecting their first child.

Welcome to the team 🧑‍🍼🌳🚴

“You’ve got it easy, sitting at a desk.”

That’s what my 15-year-old son said to me after spending a day working with one of our teams.

To be fair, he’d just spent the day dragging branches in this summer heat to earn some money towards a new bike. I did chuckle to myself.

Then I asked him,
“Do you know how long I’ve spent doing what you’ve done for one day?”
The answer is 25 years.

I didn’t start behind a desk.

I started exactly where many people in this industry do. Dragging branches. Footing ladders. Fueling saws. Working through freezing winters, wet days and scorching summers. Early starts. Late finishes.

Like many young lads, I worked with people who knew I wouldn’t say no. I carried more than my fair share some days. Other people took the time to teach me properly, and those lessons became the foundations of everything I know today.

Those years weren’t just about learning how to climb trees.
They taught me how to work hard. How to solve problems. How to lead people.

How to stay calm under pressure (or try).

Today I spend more time in the office than I'd like.
But the responsibility is different.

Making decisions that affect the team. Looking after clients. Winning work. Paying wages. Solving problems that nobody else sees.

The physical graft has been replaced by mental pressure.

Neither is easy.

The lesson I wanted my son to take away wasn’t that hard work builds character.

It was this...

There aren’t many real shortcuts.

Experience is earned. Good leadership starts by understanding the job from the ground up. The years you spend learning the craft are what prepare you for the responsibility that comes later.

Do you think the best leaders are the ones who’ve done the job themselves?

Evoke have proudly teamed up with the U16 Lemsford Lions. After seeing them win their division last season we know we’re behind a winning team. Great bunch led but a great coaching team. Looking forward to lifting more trophies this year. 🦁🏆⚽️

Overhanging branches seems to be an issue for lots of our clients. heres a recent job we carried out

The problem
An large Oak growing out from a woodland, massively oversailing our clients property, blocking light, filling gutters with leaves and debris and allowing pigeons to do what pigeons do best.

The Solution
We lifted some lower branches, reduced back the upper branches over the property. Conscious of the fact this was not our clients tree and that cutting back to the boundary line would have been detrimental to both the tree physiologically and aesthetically

The outcome
More light, less leaves and debris in the gutters (yes there will still be lots of leaves)
Happy client

Small plant. Big ambitions.

This holly is 125mm tall. Its roots are already longer than the whole thing, and that's only what came up with it. The rest stayed in the ground where it belongs.

Roots go out, not down. Most of the action happens in the top 600mm of soil, because that's where the water and air are.

So no, your neighbour's oak probably isn't tunnelling towards your cellar.

But on clay soil, and we've got plenty of that round here, a big tree in a dry summer can pull enough moisture out of the ground to move it. That's the one worth understanding before anyone starts panicking about foundations.

Happy to explain it properly if you've got a tree you're unsure about.
