🚨 – Never Cover a Smoke Alarm! 🚨

A sock over a smoke detector?! 🧦

It might seem harmless, but covering a smoke alarm can prevent smoke from reaching the sensor properly and delay detection of a fire when every second counts.

Smoke alarms are there to give you an early warning and precious time to get out safely. They should always be kept uncovered, unobstructed and in good working order.

✅ Test your smoke alarms regularly using the test button.
✅ Keep detectors clear of dust, obstructions and coverings.
✅ Never disable or cover an alarm because of nuisance activations — investigate the cause instead.
✅ If an alarm is faulty, get it checked and repaired or replaced.

Please don’t compromise your safety. A smoke alarm can only do its job if it can detect smoke!

At Pentacle Electrical and Security Ltd, we’re passionate about fire safety and helping people stay protected.

🔧 It’s the little details that make the difference.

Today’s fire alarm call-out was for a faulty sounder. We replaced the defective unit and, while carrying out the work, spotted another detail worth putting right.

The functional earth conductor had green and yellow sleeving fitted, so we replaced it with the correct pink sleeving to identify its function.

It would have been easy to simply replace the sounder and move on. At Pentacle Electrical and Security Ltd, we believe the job deserves more attention than that.

We don’t just fix the fault we’re called out for. We pay attention to the details, too.

That’s the standard we aim to deliver on every job, whether it’s a small repair or a complete installation.

⚡ OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW! 💡

Another local electrical installation completed by Pentacle Electrical and Security Ltd!

Today’s job involved giving a customer’s garage a much-needed electrical refresh.

🔧 What did we do?

✅ Removed the old fluorescent light fitting.

✅ Installed a new Knightsbridgemla energy-efficient LED batten, providing bright, even illumination.

✅ Replaced the existing single socket with a more practical double socket.

✅ Replaced the old electrical cable with new wiring.

✅ Checked and tested the installation.

💡 Why upgrade to LED lighting?

Modern LED battens offer several advantages over traditional fluorescent fittings:

✔️ Lower energy consumption

✔️ Longer operating life

✔️ Instant illumination without flickering or warm-up time

✔️ Reduced maintenance requirements

Sometimes it’s the smaller electrical improvements that make the biggest difference!

Whether it’s a single light fitting, additional sockets or a complete electrical installation, we bring the same attention to detail to every job.

🚨 INTRUDER ALARM TAKEOVER – WHEN WAS YOUR ALARM LAST SERVICED? 🔐

Another intruder alarm takeover carried out today by Pentacle Electrical and Security Ltd!

When taking over an existing alarm system, we don’t just change the engineer details and walk away. We take the opportunity to assess the system and check its condition.

🔍 One thing we discovered today was a backup battery dated May 2018!

That’s over 8 years old!

🔋 The backup battery is an important part of an intruder alarm system. It helps keep the alarm operational during a mains power failure.

Over time, batteries deteriorate, reducing their ability to provide reliable backup power when it’s needed.

During today’s takeover, we:

✅ Checked the existing alarm system

✅ Identified and replaced the ageing backup battery

✅ Carried out battery testing and recorded the results

✅ Attended to the alarm’s tamper condition

✅ Completed the takeover and returned the system to normal operation

An intruder alarm is only as reliable as the maintenance behind it.

Whether you’ve moved into a property with an existing alarm, are unhappy with your current provider, or simply haven’t had your system serviced for some time, we can help.

🚨 Emergency Lighting – It’s the Little Details That Matter! 🔦

Emergency lighting is something we hope we’ll never need, but when the power fails, it needs to work!

During a recent annual emergency lighting test, we discovered that an emergency exit light had failed its required duration test.

The solution? Replace the defective fitting with a new LED emergency exit sign. ✅

But there’s another little detail we wanted to highlight…

🔋 We always date the batteries when installing emergency lighting!

It’s something we regularly find hasn’t been done, including on the fitting we removed.

Why does it matter?

✅ Helps identify how long a battery has been in service.

✅ Makes future maintenance and inspections easier.

✅ Helps assess when a battery may be approaching the end of its expected service life.

✅ Provides useful information for whoever maintains the installation in the future.

Of course, a battery’s age alone doesn’t determine whether it’s serviceable — regular testing is essential.

At Pentacle Electrical and Security Ltd, we believe good maintenance isn’t just about fixing what’s failed today. It’s also about making life easier for the person maintaining the system tomorrow.

We provide:

🔦 Emergency lighting installation
🔧 Emergency lighting repairs and replacements
🧪 Monthly functional testing and annual duration testing
📋 Emergency lighting inspection and maintenance

Whether you’re a business owner, landlord or facilities manager, keeping your emergency lighting properly maintained is an important part of your fire safety arrangements.

Because when the lights go out, your emergency lighting needs to be ready!

⚡ Out With the Old, In With the New! ⚡

Another commercial electrical upgrade carried out by Pentacle Electrical and Security Ltd!

This project involved replacing an ageing Merlin Gerin three-phase distribution board with a modern FuseBox three-phase distribution board.

As you can see from the photos, there’s quite a bit more involved than simply swapping one board for another!

The new installation features:

✅ Modern three-phase distribution equipment

✅ Individual RCBO protection for circuits

✅ Surge Protection Device (SPD)

✅ Clearly identified circuits for easier operation and maintenance

✅ A modern installation designed with electrical safety and future maintenance in mind

From safely removing the existing equipment and preparing the new installation to reconnecting circuits and carrying out the necessary inspection and testing, attention to detail is essential.

It’s another example of the commercial electrical work we undertake at Pentacle Electrical and Security Ltd.

Whether it’s a small electrical repair, a distribution board upgrade or ongoing electrical maintenance, we bring the same professional approach to every job.

🚨 – Is Your Home Properly Protected? 🏠🔥

Did you know that you should have at least one smoke alarm on every level of your home?

Smoke alarms provide that vital early warning in the event of a fire, giving you and your family precious time to escape.

But simply having smoke alarms installed isn’t enough — they need to be correctly positioned, regularly tested and properly maintained!

✅ One smoke alarm on every level as a minimum.

✅ Test your alarms weekly using the test button.

✅ Check the expiry date — smoke alarms don’t last forever!

✅ Never remove batteries or disable an alarm.

✅ Consider interconnected alarms — when one activates, they all sound, providing an earlier warning throughout the property.

Remember, one alarm per floor is a minimum recommendation. Depending on your property’s layout and circumstances, additional smoke and heat alarms may be needed to provide appropriate protection.

At Pentacle Electrical and Security Ltd, we’re proud to be a BAFE registered organisation, providing professional domestic fire detection and alarm services.

Whether you’re a homeowner, landlord or property manager, we can help ensure your fire detection system is suitable for your property.

🔥 Fire safety starts with early detection. Don’t leave it to chance!
