🚨 Hidden Live Consumer Unit Found Serving Half the Property! 🚨

Here’s one that genuinely made me stop and ask:

“Why would someone do that?” 🤔

I was recently called to a property where the homeowner believed they had a single consumer unit serving the entire installation.

After a bit of investigation, I discovered a second live consumer unit and connector block completely hidden behind cladding and fitted furniture.

The homeowner was completely unaware that it even existed.

Even more concerning, this hidden consumer unit was still supplying approximately half of the property. 😳

Imagine needing to isolate power in an emergency, carry out maintenance, or investigate a fault, only to discover that part of the installation is being supplied from a consumer unit nobody knows about and can’t easily access.

⚠️ Consumer units and electrical connections should remain accessible.

⚠️ Hidden electrical equipment can make fault finding far more difficult and time-consuming.

⚠️ In an emergency, knowing exactly where your electrical equipment is located can be critical.

Thankfully this was discovered before it caused a much bigger headache.

☕🇺🇸 A slightly different project completed recently in Rickmansworth!

Our customer had imported a commercial American 3kW coffee machine that required a dedicated 110V supply and genuine US-style socket outlets.

To make this possible, we installed a dedicated 110V circuit complete with transformer and American receptacles, providing a safe and reliable power source for the equipment.

Not every electrical installation involves standard UK sockets. Sometimes the solution requires specialist design and equipment to match the customer’s requirements.

It’s always interesting working on projects that fall outside the norm and this one certainly stood out!

Behind-the-scenes from a recent chandelier installation and ceiling reinforcement project ✨

This feature chandelier weighed approximately 60kg, so careful planning and structural reinforcement were essential before installation. The existing ceiling was opened up, reinforced between the joists, additional support installed, wiring adjusted, and the ceiling then repaired and made good before the chandelier could finally be fitted safely and securely.

A lot of work goes into installations like these that is never seen once the final fitting is in place — but the preparation behind the scenes is often the most important part.

Very pleased with how this one turned out 👌
