What’s hiding under your loft boards? 🐀

During a loft clearance in Sunderland, we lifted a section of boarding and uncovered this substantial rat nest hidden underneath.

The rats had gathered and shredded bin bags and carrier bags, dragging the material into the loft and creating a well-established nesting area amongst the insulation and timbers.

It’s a good example of why a proper loft clearance following a long-standing rodent problem involves much more than simply removing visible droppings. Nesting material, contaminated insulation and debris can be concealed beneath boards and in areas that aren’t immediately obvious.

Once the rodent ingress has been resolved, we can remove contaminated materials and nesting debris, clean and treat the affected areas, and leave the loft in a much safer and cleaner condition.

🐝 DIY wasp treatment gone slightly… nuclear.

We were called to this property in Newcastle after the customer had already attempted to deal with the nest themselves.

Judging by the blackened brickwork, we’re not entirely sure what the previous treatment involved — but it appears the wasps may have survived something approaching a small house fire. 😂🔥

The active nest was located within the wall cavity through the air brick and professionally treated directly at the entry point.

If you’ve got a wasp nest, probably best to give us a call before reaching for the flamethrower.

One week into treatment for a heavy German cockroach infestation in Blyth. 🪳

We’re tackling this one using targeted gel bait applications and pheromone monitoring traps — and the traps show just how significant the level of activity has been.

German cockroaches reproduce rapidly, so infestations like this aren’t solved with a quick spray. Treatment needs to be targeted, monitored and adjusted as activity reduces.

Plenty of work still to do here, but we’re heading in the right direction.

Rats don’t need much encouragement to cause serious damage.

This is a great example of rat gnawing on electrical cabling. Rats’ teeth grow continuously, so gnawing is a natural behaviour — unfortunately, cables, pipes and building materials are often in the firing line.

Damage like this isn’t just evidence of an infestation; it can create a genuine electrical and fire risk.

Finding rats is one thing. Finding out how they’re getting in is the important bit. 🔎🐀

🐝 WASP NEST IN A CAVITY WALL | NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

This one was tucked away at ground level, with wasps using a small opening in the brickwork to access a nest inside the wall cavity.

The nest itself might be hidden, but the steady stream of wasps entering and leaving gives the location away.

Nest located, entry point identified and treatment carried out. ✅

🚨 One of the busiest wasp nests we’ve dealt with this summer.

This colony had established itself inside the cavity wall above the main entrance to a commercial unit near Newcastle Airport.

The video starts with the level of wasp activity before treatment. Midway through you’ll see the treatment taking effect, with wasps emerging coated in insecticidal dust before carrying it deeper into the nest.

Stay until the end… the colony makes its feelings known, and I get a less-than-friendly send-off at the top of the ladder.

If you’re seeing wasps repeatedly entering the same gap in brickwork, soffits or rooflines, there’s a good chance you’ve got an active nest developing.

Covering Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham and the wider North East.

This one just kept going… 😳🐝

When we removed the outer layers, there was another comb… and another… and another.

Wasp nests can grow surprisingly large over the summer, with thousands of wasps living inside a single colony. By the time they’re visible from outside, they’re often much bigger than people expect.

Safe treatment carried out, nest removed, and another happy customer. ✅

If you’ve noticed increased wasp activity around your home or business, don’t leave it until the nest reaches this size.
