⚠️ Meripilus Giganteus ⚠️ ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Meripilus Giganteus or giant polypore found at the base of a copper beech.

Given its official scientific name in 1882, the parasitic giant polypore feeds off the host trees root system (typically beech) which may cause the tree to fail.

The fungus can also act as a saprobe, feeding off of dead organic matter.

This meant searching high and low over the whole of Wiltshire, checking trees for any signs.
