In 2020, Butterfly Valley meadows were sown and the rainwater collection pond was completed. Since then, the area has continued to evolve, including the addition of the Gathering Pond hide.

Today it's one of the most peaceful parts of the gardens, providing colour through the seasons and valuable habitat for wildlife.

The Holme Story: Lavender Avenue

When Lavender Avenue was planted in 2019, it marked the beginning of a long-term vision. Today, the hornbeams and 'Munstead' lavender have matured into one of the most photographed and recognisable parts of the gardens.

2019 saw the planting of Lavender Avenue with hornbeams and 'Munstead' lavender. Butterfly Valley was also shaped and the gathering pond dug, while the amphitheatre welcomed its first public performances.

These additions helped shape the gardens visitors enjoy today.

2018 saw the creation of the grass amphitheatre and the planting of the Henge Garden with heathers, trees, grasses and shrubs.

The gardens officially opened to visitors, the final Pick Your Own fruit was sold, and guests were welcomed to explore the grounds free of charge.

The iconic stone circle was also installed, becoming one of the garden's most recognisable features.

This year, Holme for Gardens celebrates 10 years as a public garden.

In 2016, the decision was taken to transform the former fruit farm into public gardens, beginning a decade of planting, creating and developing the landscape visitors enjoy today.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be looking back at the people, places and milestones that have shaped the gardens from 2016 to 2026.
