The woolly mowers are back, helping to keep the grass down in the orchard and another field. 🐑

Points, points, points...

Have you been collecting points on your Holme for Gardens Loyalty Card?

Your points can be put towards purchases in the Garden Centre, a visit to the Orchard Café or a walk around the Holme Gardens.

So what will you spend yours on? Perhaps a meal with a friend in the Orchard Café, a new plant for the garden, some spring-flowering bulbs or something for an autumn pot.

💧 Rainwater harvesting at Holme

After such a hot, dry summer, water management has been particularly important in the gardens this year.

Rainwater collected from the Garden Centre roofs and car park is stored and reused to help water the plants during the drier months. It is part of the way we try to work with the landscape and make better use of the water that falls here at Holme.

In this video, filmed a couple of years ago, Simon explains how rainwater harvesting works at Holme and how the collected water is used around the gardens.

The Solar Borders are putting on a spectacular display at the moment.

Stands of the Red Hot Poker, Kniphofia caulescens, lead the eye through the border, complemented by drifts of the blue-flowered Aster × frikartii 'Mönch'.

In other areas of the border, Kniphofia caulescens stands alongside the soft, fluffy plumes of pampas grass, Cortaderia 'Silver Spear', creating a striking contrast of colour and texture.
