European Freight Forwarder / Freight Operative

Location: Warboys
Full-time | Permanent

We are a friendly, established family-run logistics business based in Warboys, and we are looking for a European Freight Forwarder / Freight Operative to join our small, supportive team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for arranging shipments to and from Europe, liaising with clients, overseas agents and hauliers to ensure goods are transported efficiently and on time.

Previous freight forwarding experience is preferred, but we are also happy to consider a junior candidate with the right attitude and willingness to learn. Full training will be provided.

The Role

Responsibilities will include:

- Arranging European exports from clients' warehouses through to their final destination
- Liaising with clients, European agents and hauliers
- Arranging road insurance cover
- Preparing shipping and customs documentation
- Providing quotations, costing shipments and preparing invoices
- Ensuring shipments comply with international shipping regulations
- Tracking shipments and resolving any issues or delays
- Providing excellent customer service
- Working as part of a small, friendly and supportive team

Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone with:

- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Good English, Maths and Geography skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to multitask and work to deadlines
- A good understanding of international shipping procedures and documentation would be an advantage
- Knowledge of Incoterms would be beneficial, although training will be provided
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel
- A positive, reliable and hardworking approach

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Trainee European Freight Forwarder & Admin Assistant to join our growing logistics team. This entry-level role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop a career in freight forwarding and international logistics. You will support the coordination of shipments between the UK and Europe, assist with customs procedures, prepare key shipping documentation, and liaise with hauliers, customers, and agents.

Key Responsibilities:
• Arrange and coordinate road freight shipments between the UK and Europe.
• Assist with import and export customs clearance procedures
• Prepare and issue essential export documentation
• Organise and manage marine cargo insurance where required.
• Liaise effectively with customers, freight agents, hauliers, and internal departments to ensure smooth shipment operations.
• Maintain up-to-date and accurate shipment and customs records in internal systems.
• Support with administrative tasks and provide general assistance to the operations team.
• Stay informed on current freight and customs regulations affecting UK-Europe trade.

Requirements:
• Maths & English Grade 4 or above
• Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• A keen interest in Geography would be an advantage
• Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
• Willingness to learn and develop within the freight forwarding industry.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal abilities
• Prior experience in logistics or administrative roles is an advantage but not essential.
