A new chapter begins in the Surrey Hills.

Nestled within one of Surrey's most picturesque villages, this single storey rear extension has been designed to bring more light, more connection, and a better way of living to an already beautiful home.

Our proposal carefully balances contemporary family life with the character of its rural setting. Expansive glazing, a central roof lantern and a seamless relationship between the kitchen, dining space and garden create interiors that feel calm, bright and effortlessly connected to nature.

Externally, the extension takes inspiration from traditional garden architecture, using refined proportions and elegant detailing to create a timeless addition that sits comfortably within its surroundings.

Planning has now been submitted, and we look forward to sharing the journey as the project progresses.

Every successful home transformation starts with a thoughtful design.

Walking in from the hallway, this is the first thing you see.

For a young family in Walton-on-Thames, that mattered. Two small kids, both parents working, a kitchen that used to be a bottleneck. Now it's the heart of the house. Sightline straight through to the garden. Room to cook, gather, and actually watch the kids play, all at once.

This is what a good extension does: it doesn't just add space, it removes friction from daily life.

A glimpse into a private retreat designed for year-round living, just in time for the heatwave.

In the warmer months, an enclosed swimming pool becomes something more than leisure. It becomes a quiet escape from the intensity of summer: temperature-controlled comfort, filtered light, and a calm sense of enclosure that feels both restorative and refined.

This project in St George's Hill Estate in Weybridge was designed for a growing family who wanted the freedom of outdoor living with the control of an interior space. Large glazed openings dissolve the boundary between inside and garden, while carefully placed rooflights bring in soft daylight without the harshness of direct sun.

At night, discreet lighting transforms the space: subtle, architectural, and atmospheric rather than decorative. A room that shifts effortlessly from family use to private evening retreat.

As heatwaves become more frequent, these spaces are no longer a luxury afterthought, they are becoming essential architecture for contemporary family life.

A contemporary orangery designed to bring the outside in.

For this Shamley Green home, the aim was to create a new living space that feels connected to its surroundings while complementing the character of the existing property.

The orangery-style extension creates a light-filled kitchen and dining space, with carefully considered proportions, framed views and a strong connection to the garden.

The design balances traditional architectural details with a more contemporary way of living, creating a space that feels both timeless and practical for everyday family life.

Good extensions are not just about increasing floor area. They are about understanding how a home is used and creating spaces that support the way people want to live.

A home extension should do more than add space, it should change how the home feels to live in every day.

For this concept, the focus was on creating a calm, light-filled living space that feels connected to the garden throughout the day. The exposed timber structure helps frame views outward while bringing warmth and rhythm into the interior, balancing the clean minimal palette with a softer, more natural feel.

Rather than simply increasing square footage, the design explores how layout, light and proportion can completely transform the experience of a home.

Thoughtful design is often less about adding more, and more about making space work better.

Thinking about extending your Surrey home in 2026?

Most homeowners start with the same question: “How much will it cost?”

But the real issue isn’t just cost, it’s the uncertainty that comes with it.

Will it go over budget?
Will planning slow everything down?
Will it actually improve how your home feels to live in?

For many families, this becomes a stressful guessing game long before any drawings are even started.
That’s exactly why we created this guide.
We’ve broken down the real cost of a house extension in Surrey for 2026, clearly, calmly, and without the jargon, so you can understand:

▪ What different types of extensions actually cost
▪ How pricing really breaks down per m²
▪ Where budgets typically go wrong
▪ What to plan for beyond the build cost
▪ How to avoid expensive surprises later

Because good decisions don’t come from estimates and anxiety, they come from clarity.

If you’re even considering extending your home, this is the first step to getting it right.

Some homes don’t need more space.
They need better space and the right materials to bring it to life.

On this project, we used Shou Sugi Ban, a traditional Japanese charred timber, to create a bold, refined exterior that feels both contemporary and timeless.

But this wasn’t just an aesthetic choice.

The deep, textured finish adds durability, low maintenance, and a richness that changes subtly with the light throughout the day. It gives the home a quiet confidence, something that stands apart without needing to shout.

For our clients, who wanted a home that felt distinctive yet calm, it became the defining feature of the design.

Because great architecture isn’t just about adding space. It’s about making decisions you won’t second-guess in five years’ time.
