I love this quote and much of the deeper meaning it has I try and instil into Albert. Not everyone will agree and of course not all of us are the same. However, there is a reason that farmers herd sheep and not wolves.
I’ve never worked for anyone other than myself all my adult life, I don’t’ know what started this or why I chose a different path from the ‘safety’ of employment. I never felt that employment was safe, I felt it was a trap. I still do.
That doesn’t mean being self-employed or owning a business is easier. It is not easier by any means. Each and every single month my income is zero, I start with a blank canvas and have to graft, nothing is promised and nothing is certainly guaranteed.
However, I think what you potentially gain far outweighs the risk and the bottom line is this, people who want to plod through life can plod, that’s totally fine but if you want to travel, explore, experience all the incredible things that life can offer you have to be prepared to graft.
They say ‘there’s no such thing as a free lunch’. Well, for some people there is but I aim much, much higher than this.
Covid proved this, people who work really worked, nothing changed for these people. However, the amount if illegal furlough claims and those doing very little all day skyrocketed. They then refused to go back to work because they were ‘nervous’. Absolute rubbish, they had been paid 80% of their wages to watch box sets and drink gin and tonics at 3pm.
The world is changing so fast, we need more and more people to be cognitive, to be creative and to think outside the box. How we teach and what we teach has never been more important, the environment we create, the language we use and the time we spend listening to our children needs to be improved by everyone.
I’m not here trying to teach Albert all I know, I’m trying to create the space for him to develop his passions, interests and ultimately teach me.
