🔨 FROM OLD MORTAR TO A BRAND-NEW DRY RIDGE SYSTEM!

A quick before-and-after from today’s job, with the boss explaining exactly what work was needed and showing the finished result. 👌

The work included:

✅ Removing the old mortar-bedded ridge tiles
✅ Installing a new mechanically fixed dry ridge system
✅ Carrying out mortar repairs to the valleys
✅ Removing a redundant soil stack and making the roof good

A much neater and more secure finish, with the ridge tiles no longer relying on ageing mortar to keep them in place.

🏠 BEFORE & AFTER — ANOTHER ROOF UPGRADED! 🏠

Today’s work included:

✅ Old mortar-bedded ridge tiles removed
✅ New mechanically fixed dry ridge system installed
✅ Necessary mortar repairs carried out to the valleys
✅ Redundant soil stack removed and the roof made good

The new dry ridge system gives the roof a much neater finish while removing the reliance on ageing mortar to hold the ridge tiles securely in place. Another roof left stronger, tidier and better protected from the weather! 💪🔨

🚨 ROGUE BUILDERS NEED STOPPING — BUT IS THIS REALLY THE ANSWER? 🚨

Andy Burnham has introduced a new scheme aimed at combating rogue builders and protecting customers.

Sounds good on paper… but I think there’s another side to this that needs talking about.

🎥 In this video I give my own view, as someone who actually works in the construction industry, on why I believe this could potentially make the problem WORSE — while creating even more difficulties for the genuine, hardworking tradespeople who are already trying to do everything properly.

Nobody in the legitimate building trade wants rogue traders operating.

They damage customers financially, destroy trust and give the rest of us a bad name.

But we need to be careful that measures designed to tackle the cowboys don’t end up putting more obstacles in front of the honest businesses while the very people they’re supposed to stop simply find another way around the system.

This is around 8 minutes long because I wanted to properly explain my thoughts rather than reduce it to a 30-second soundbite.

After all the recent rain, today has been another busy one for the boss — out visiting customers in Walsall & Stourbridge who are experiencing problems with leaking roofs.

After all the recent heavy rain, we’ve been out across the local area today visiting customers who have discovered leaks — and these are just a few of the problems we came across. 👀

From ageing and deteriorated valleys, failing roof junctions and felt that’s lifting, through to tired tiles and some rather questionable previous work around a chimney! 😬
