As promised hereโs the full post of the first full camper conversion weโve done in over 3 years ๐
Elizabeth is a previous Raptor AND Conversion customer of ours - if she has any more work done Iโll have to start a loyalty scheme ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ Especially as she hails from
Scotland, and keeps coming back to us! ๐
Her previous van was a short wheelbase, low roof crafter, but sheโs upped her Crafter game this time, dropping off her new shape medium wheelbase, complete with flame red paint and bodykit back in May ๐๐๐
The brief for the interior was a polar opposite of the sporty, modern exterior - a bit hippyish, boho, definitely NOT beige and vanilla!!! ๐
Must have dog accommodation for 3 poochโs, a bed, somewhere to sit, somewhere to put stuff ๐๐ผ
Other than that I had free reign ๐๐๐
So as you can see, I went with my comfort zone of reclaimed materials, aged looks, but with a very bright (if a little muted at times) colour-scheme. A mix of processes, colours & finishes throughout the build, but every single piece hand picked, cut, prepped, fitted, removed, painted/finished, and refitted! ๐ณ I have literally been in & out of this van over 1000 times in the last 3 months ๐ฅต๐
Obviously the job started with a full strip of the interior - all ply/plastic panels removed, metalwork cleaned, 3 side windows installed, then panels sound deadened, insulated, cabling run throughout, closed cell vapour barrier, 4 way stretch carpeted everywhere! All before a single piece of former pallet touched the van! ๐
I wonโt bore you with the details of the couple of hundred hours of woodwork, but I will say power to the habitation area comes from the starter battery and a 200w solar panel, via a 50amp DC to DC charger/mppt controller, all protected by mega fuses, cut off switches, trip switches, connected to a blade fuseboard, feeding usb charger sockets on the kitchen worktop, each rear corner, & to the side of the bed. There are also 2 12v sockets on the lower rear corners, and 1 under the kitchen unit for the cooler. The main lights and upper cupboard lights are controlled from the kitchen worktop, and the bed/reading lights are individually switched. For air flow thereโs a manual skylight towards the front, and a Deluxe Maxxair fain towards the rear. Thereโs a diesel heater under 1 of the seats, a flip up table on the side of the bed which also acts as a door to the doggy are under the bed. Thereโs an additional piece of workshop that slits in behind the cab for longer stays - this also can be mounted outside over the step for outdoor cooking ๐
We cut a walk-through in the can bulkhead so Elizabeth can access the rear of the van without having to go outside if itโs raining, and also so she can jump in the drivers seat and move off in an emergency ๐
It may look like a โbasicโ job to some - no actual fridge, built in cooker, running water etc etc etc, but sooo much has gone into this build - it has the basics, and is expandable if required, itโs what was asked for, and hopefully a little more ๐ค๐ผ
Thank you so much Elizabeth for your continued support, business, and faith in Legacy Customs ๐๐ผ This has been a hard slog, culminating in a 15 hour shift the day before you arrived to collect ๐ฅต But it has been fun and immensely rewarding! ๐ค
A huge thanks as always to the LC crew/family - my dad has been running all over the place collecting bits, helping me wherever he could, Jay as always keeping me motivated and doing anything he can to push the job along (even pulling the final 15 hour shift with me - unpaid might I add!), and Kerri for her support, and for jumping in at the 12th hour to get the curtains & blind knocked out in amazing fashion ๐๐๐ผ Couldnโt do it without you guys ๐ซถ๐ผ
