This week I was asked to replace an old timber deck with a new one. The existing deck was originally an outer square, the centre filled in at a later date and covered with artificial grass. Three wet days later and the old timbers have been removed and sent off for recycling, and a new deck sits in its place. A treated timber base set off the ground to keep the moisture out, covered with premium timber decking boards, and all finished off with a pair of new handrails to help up and down the steps. Another deck completed, another happy customer and another 5 star review.

Second half of this week has seen me in Slitting Mill replacing a pair of composite decks. The previous installation had been screwed through the face and the boards were starting to cup so I was asked to replace the boards with new ones. Two areas replaced with Assured Composite anthracite decking boards.

Finally finished this job today after a day in early September to prep the deck for the gazebo build, a full week last week and a full day today. When the customer first got in touch and started talking about baths and a mains gas fire I wasn’t sure what I was letting myself in for. But what an amazing project this has been. Working alongside electricians and plumbers to ensure access points are made and everything is connected properly without weakening the deck structure was both challenging and enjoyable. This is an 11m by 6m Assured Composite oak deck with planters around 3 sides all clad in matching composite and incorporating two sets of steps down to the lawn. Can’t wait to see it with the planters full and the lights on.

Finished the week off with a job in Walsall. After being let down by a previous builder I was asked to build a veranda over the rear patio. A strong timber frame supporting 10mm twin wall polycarbonate panels gives a full width coverage almost 4m deep over the rear of the property. An outisde area for dining or entertaining that is now usable through almost any weather.

First job of the week completed in just 2 days. This customer had an existing gazebo and wanted to make a more comfortable area underneath it than the current gravel. I was initially asked to install a 6m x 3m deck under and in front of the gazebo, before an additional area was added to the job by the rear fence. Both areas are finished in Assured Composite anthracite decking with matching facia. The bench was installed as soon as the small deck was completed, and the furniture is all ready for the new deck. Another fantastic job and another happy customer.

This job has been running since June, but finally completed today. The existing veranda has been upgraded from polycarbonate to some lovely clear R Glaze panels. The old timber decking was removed, the base upgraded with some additional joists, new newel posts all around and a larger step down to the path and lawn. New glass balustrade was installed, a pair of gates added and the whole area covered with Assured Composite anthracite decking. Timber screening added to the rear of the veranda, some new picket fence and a gate around the lawn (still being painted) just to finish off. Its been a challenge, with shipping delays and damaged glass panels but all complete now.

Finished the week off with a return to a customer in Birmingham. After doing a few repairs and applying some anti slip coating to the deck previously, this customer requested I return and add some handrails to the steps as their mobility was starting to become an issue. Only a quick job but makes such a difference to the customer.

First job this week saw me in Olton, Solihull where this customer had asked me to deck over their sunken patio. Some Assured Composite cedar superior decking has been installed giving this rear patio a new lease of life. No more steps down out of the house with an almost level access and just a small step up to the lawn where before there were two fairly deep ones. A lovely spot for an evening meal and a drink.

Final job this week was to finish off last weeks project following a delivery delay on the glass. This customer had an existing timber deck which was in overall good condition but had a couple of weak areas. The steps had pretty much rotted away to nothing and the front projection used to be covered in plants and ivy and had rotted away by the fence. So the rot was removed, the deck area replaced and a new set of steps was added. And to finish it off a glass balustrade to replace the old hanging ropes. A fresh coat of paint or 2 has been applied in the intervening week and this deck now looks amazing.
