Camira Fabrics, a leading textile manufacturer, required an upgrade to their Meltham, Huddersfield manufacturing facility to accommodate new fabric drying machinery. The expansion necessitated robust and reliable low-voltage (LV) power distribution to ensure uninterrupted operation for the new equipment.

The primary challenge was to design and install a power distribution system with a total capacity of 494KVA suitable for supporting advanced fabric drying processes. The project had to be executed with minimal disruption to ongoing manufacturing activities and strict adherence to safety and compliance standards.

RVC Electrical was engaged for their expertise in industrial electrical solutions. The project included:
• Design and installation of 494KVA LV power distribution tailored for the new machinery.
• Deployment of 2 x Schneider Electric MCCB Panel Boards to ensure reliable and safe power management.
• Surge protection
• Installation of appropriate cable containment systems to support and protect the new wiring infrastructure.
• Completion of final circuit wiring, connecting all new equipment in accordance with regulatory requirements.

The project was completed efficiently, enabling Camira Fabrics to commission their new drying machinery without delay. The upgraded LV power distribution system provided enhanced reliability, supported increased production capacity, and ensured compliance withBS7671:2018+AM2.

RVC Electrical provides Solar PV Installation for Byram Park Social Club

Background: Byram Park Social Club, a vibrant community hub, was facing increasing energy costs and a growing desire to reduce its carbon footprint. The club's management sought a sustainable solution that would not only lower their running costs but also align with their commitment to environmental responsibility.

Solution: RVC Electrical, a leading, Yorkshire-based provider of renewable energy solutions, was approached to design and install a Solar PV system to meet the club's needs. After a thorough assessment, RVC Electrical proposed 22.26kW Solar PV installation to generate clean, renewable energy, with the solar panels strategically positioned to maximise sunlight exposure and energy production.

Implementation: During the installation process, RVC Electrical worked closely with the club's management to ensure minimal disruption to their daily operations over the course of 2 weeks.

Results: The impact of the Solar PV installation was immediate and significant. Byram Park Social Club experienced a significant reduction in their energy bills, with the system generating enough electricity to cover a large portion of their energy needs. This has, not only, lowered their running costs but also provided protection against future energy price increases, whilst also reducing club's carbon footprint. RVC Electrical provides new car park lighting for Featherstone Sports Complex. The old HPS and SOX lighting units had failed on many of the existing columns, and many of the columns had suffered vehicle collisions, so required replacement.

We provided a full electrical design, and installation of new underground cabling in a ducting system along with new lighting columns having highly efficient LED street lighting heads.

Experience and Competencies

- Full UK Driving License
- 18th edition qualified electrician with at least NVQ Level 3
- 2391 Inspection & Testing qualification
- ECS Approved Electrician Gold Card
- IPAF would be advantageous
- Experience with commercial and industrial electrical installation would be advantageous
- Excellent customer service skills and an ability to communicate professionally with colleagues and customers
- Loyal and enthusiastic team player
- Proactive with a desire and attitude to learn and develop.
- Enhanced DBS check will be required (to be performed following interview)

EV Charging and Switchgear Upgrade Solutions

RVC Electrical provides upgrade of switchgear, new energy metering and Electric Vehicle Charging for Geckops House, Lepton Huddersfield including:

- Completion of electrical installation design calculations, drawings and schematics to BS7671:2018+A2 for all new switchgear and submains
- Relocation of main switchgear and incoming supply into new Landlord's switchroom
- Installation of new main Schneider Electric MCCB panel board for new 173KVA TP+N incoming supply
- Installation of new final distribution boards for each unit
- Rebalancing of loads across phases of main supply
- Full inspection and testing of existing installation
- Acting as agent to local DNO for new supply upgrade from 70KVA to 173KVA
- Installation of surge protection for all distribution board and switchgear
- Installation of Twin 22Kw EV Charging Point for Public Use

RVC Electrical Limited was approached by Westerton Primary Academy, a large primary school with a commitment to reduce their carbon footprint, to install new LV switchgear, to support the replacement of their old gas cooking appliances with new 3-phase electrical appliances. The school had a strong desire to reduce their energy usage and contribute to the fight against climate change by using more sustainable methods of energy consumption. By collaborating closely with the school's staff, RVC Electrical Limited was able to deliver a successful project that met the school's needs and goals.

RVC Electrical Limited carried out a thorough assessment of the existing electrical infrastructure to determine the requirements for the new switchgear and the best approach to installing the supplies for the new 3-phase appliances. As part of this process a full electrical design was prepared to verify the protection requirements for new and existing circuits. To enable future maintenance and easy identification of the new and existing sub-mains, a full single-line schematic was also provided.

The first phase of the project involved installing new LV switchgear to replace the old equipment that was obsolete, with no spare capacity for the additional load. The new switchgear increased the capacity from 250A to 315A and also provided space for numerous additional circuits along with the potential to upgrade the incoming supply to 600A in the future. This was particularly important to the Academy, as they are considering upgrading the building’s heating system from gas boilers to air source heat pumps.

The new switchgear had additional internal safety barriers to improve the overall safety of the electrical infrastructure. Along with the installation of a new 600A panel board, the works also included:

• the installation of a new main switch room earth bar;
• the installation of engraved tags attached to all SWA sub-main cables for easy identification;
• the removal of previously untraced circuits / redundant equipment;
• the installation of surge protection;
• upgrading the previous main supply tails from 185mm2 to 300mm2; and
• alterations to cable containment.

RVC Electrical Limited worked closely with the Academy’s staff, and Northern PowerGrid to ensure that the installation process did not disrupt the daily operations of the school.

Following the installation of new LV switchgear, RVC Electrical Limited installed the necessary electrical infrastructure and two new 3-phase 63A supplies, to provide power to the new cooking appliances ensuring they would operate safely and efficiently.
