RIGHT THEN… WHAT DID WE LEARN? 😂
Thanks to everyone who stuck their head above the parapet and answered our two questions on paving speed and tamper settings.
We had everything from 2.5 m/min to 23 m/min — and some very different opinions on what should happen to the tampers when the speed goes up!
But actually, that's probably the point.
There isn't one “correct” paving speed.
Material, thickness, screed, tamper settings, head of material, rollers and conditions all come into it.
A good operator knows how to make the machine go faster.
An experienced operator knows WHEN to go faster — and when not to.
We've taken your answers, added some of our own experience and looked at the engineering behind what's actually happening underneath the screed.
It's turned into a proper article about SPEED, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE and ultimately QUALITY.

PAVER OPERATORS — QUESTION 2 👇
Yesterday I asked how fast you'd actually pave.
Some of you said 5–6 m/min.
Quite a few said 8–10 m/min.
Some were 12 m/min+. 😂
So here's another question.
If you increase your paving speed from, say, 5–6 m/min to 10–12 m/min…
DO YOU ALTER THE TAMPER SPEED?
YES / NO / SOMETIMES
