It started with one simple question...

"Do we really need a garage?"

For this client, the answer was no.

Instead, they've opted for a beautifully proportioned two-bay oak framed car port.

Open on three sides to keep the structure light and inviting, with a timber-clad rear wall to provide shelter from the weather.

It's often these simpler projects that create the biggest impact, adding character, practicality and value to a property without overwhelming the space.

This one heads into manufacture soon.

Another exciting project currently on the drawing board.

This latest enquiry is for a beautifully proportioned 10m x 6m oak framed garage featuring traditional barn hip roof details, enclosed storage areas and an open central bay.

One of the things we enjoy most about bespoke oak framing is helping clients take an initial idea and turn it into something that not only looks fantastic but also works perfectly for how they intend to use the space.

At this stage we're refining the design and specifications before moving into detailed costings, but it's already shaping up to be a fantastic addition to the property.

Every oak frame we produce is manufactured to order, allowing us to tailor layouts, storage areas, bay widths and architectural details to suit each individual project.

We're looking forward to developing this one further.

A recently completed oak framed garage that demonstrates how traditional craftsmanship and modern living can work hand in hand.

This project combines secure enclosed storage, open covered parking, EV charging and a reclaimed clay tile roof, all designed to complement the existing property while providing practical everyday use.

From the featheredge cladding and roof detailing through to the integrated EV charging point, every element was carefully considered to create a building that will serve the client for many years to come.

It's shaping up to be a busy June and July for Southern Oak.

We're finishing off oak frame installations in Kent before moving straight into a packed schedule of manufacturing and installations across the South East and beyond. Over the next couple of months, our teams will be delivering everything from bespoke gazebos and garden structures to substantial four-bay oak-framed garages.

From Essex to Reading and several locations in between, it's great to see so many projects moving from the drawing board to reality.

There's a lot of travelling, a lot of timber, and a lot of hard work ahead, but that's exactly how we like it.

We'll be sharing updates from the workshop and site as these projects progress, so keep an eye out over the coming weeks. 🌳

What is the cost of doing nothing?

Not tomorrow.

Not next year.

Every day a young person goes without support is a day of missed opportunity.

A missed conversation.

A missed intervention.

A missed chance to change the direction of a life.

At Southern Oak, we believe strong communities are built on strong foundations. That's why we created the Southern Oak Community Fund and partnered with Media CIC to help provide mentoring, guidance and opportunities for young people who need them most.

The reality is simple.

If we do nothing, somebody eventually pays the price.

The young person.

Their family.

Their community.

I've shared an article exploring why early intervention matters, why prevention is so important, and why the cost of doing nothing is often far greater than the cost of helping.
