We’re delighted to share that our Founder and Managing Director, Sonia Robinson, has been announced as a speaker at the sold-out Women in Timber UK Seminar 2026.

Sonia will share her experience of starting again, entering a traditionally male-dominated industry and building Southern Oak into the nationwide oak-framing specialist it is today.

The event takes place at Oulton Hall near Leeds this October, bringing together more than 120 women from across forestry, manufacturing, timber supply, architecture, design and construction.

A fantastic recognition of Sonia’s journey and everything she has built through Southern Oak.

A new bespoke oak frame design for a project in Essex.

This one combines a traditional oak frame with an integrated log store, giving the client a practical building with plenty of character.

At this stage it’s still very much on the drawing board, but the visuals give a great idea of how the finished frame could look.

We really enjoy this part of the process, taking an initial idea and turning it into something the client can properly visualise before anything is manufactured.

A substantial bespoke oak frame currently taking shape for one of our upcoming projects.

The design combines a large 45° main roof with a lower 30° section, creating a building approximately 7m wide with a ridge height of just over 5.1m. The layout also incorporates multiple open bays, enclosed sections and external stair access to the upper level.

It’s a great example of what can be achieved when an oak frame is designed specifically around the site and how the building needs to be used, rather than trying to make a standard structure fit.

We’re looking forward to seeing this one move from drawings into oak.

A great example of how the right finishing touches can completely transform an oak frame.

We manufactured and installed the oak frame for this project, with the client then completing the build with black timber cladding, a tiled roof and decorative ridge tiles.

The contrast between the natural oak, dark cladding and traditional roof finish works brilliantly.

One of the things we like most about supplying bespoke oak frames is seeing how each client puts their own stamp on the finished building.
