🏗️ A small problem — if you find it before you start digging.

Good planning prevents costly delays and damage later in the job.

On this new-build surface water system, the soakaway and drainage route had to navigate an existing foul drain — and, as luck would have it, the foul drain was running at almost exactly the depth we needed to be at.

That’s the reason for the dog-leg in the drainage route.

By locating the existing drain, checking its depth and setting out the route before excavation, we identified a point where the foul drain ran deeper.

This allowed us to cross safely over it while maintaining the required fall on the new surface water drainage.

In itself, not a major problem.

But without the planning? It could easily have meant a damaged foul drain, re-excavation, wasted labour and materials, and unnecessary delays to the project.

That’s why we plan before we dig.
