Today is World Animal Day, a day to celebrate and raise awareness about the importance of animals in our lives and gardens.
When collecting all your leaves from your garden for your compost heap, make sure you leave piles of leaves under hedges and trees to provide shelter over winter for small mammals and insects, along with stacks of logs and piles of prunings - all of which give essential winter protection for these small creatures that contribute so much to the garden’s health.

Mulching your beds is a great way to suppress the weeds and retain the water.
