Security, convenience and a finish that ties in with the rest of the property.

For this home in Crowborough, Sussex Gate Services installed bespoke aluminium swing gates and matching posts, powder-coated to match the colour of the front door and garage.

The gates were fitted with Roger Technology above-ground operators, plus a GSM intercom so the homeowner can speak to visitors and open the gates remotely from their mobile phone.

A lockable parcel box was also added inside the entrance, giving delivery drivers a secure place to leave parcels when no one is home.

The finished entrance looks consistent with the rest of the property while making day-to-day access easier and more secure.

Traditional hardwood gates, with the automation hidden out of sight.

For this refurbished home in Danehill, Sussex Gate Services installed a pair of solid Iroko hardwood gates with Roger Technology below-ground operators. That means the motors are buried beneath the hinge points rather than mounted on the gates or brick piers.

It was a good fit for this property, where the new brick piers and resin driveway had already been carefully finished and the customer wanted the entrance to keep a more traditional look.

The result is a set of automated gates that are easy to use, secure and clean in appearance, with no visible machinery taking away from the timber.

Sussex Gate Services also provides servicing and repairs to help keep the gates, hinges and automation working as they should over time.

A new entrance designed to suit the setting.

For this rural property in Langton Green, Sussex Gate Services installed a pair of bespoke Iroko hardwood gates with solid oak posts, automated using Roger Technology operators for smooth and reliable everyday access.

To complete the entrance, chestnut post and rail fencing was installed along the boundary, keeping the whole finish in keeping with the surrounding property.

The gates were made to size and finished with protective oil to help bring out the natural grain of the timber and improve weather resistance.

A smart new entrance, without the need for automation.

For this East Sussex home, we designed and installed a pair of manual aluminium swing gates in anthracite grey, finished with a bell-top design and vision bars.

The customer wanted added security without motors or electrics, so we fitted a lockable handle that works from both sides, along with drop-down bolts to keep the gates secure when closed.

The gates were also installed onto new brick piers built by the customer’s bricklayer, with our team working alongside them to make sure everything was positioned correctly.

Aluminium keeps maintenance low, won’t rust like steel can, and works really well for a clean, modern finish.

A practical gate for a rural Crowborough property.

For this installation, Sussex Gate Services designed and fitted a manual seven-bar Iroko hardwood field gate on solid oak posts. The extra height was chosen to help keep deer out, which was especially important given the property’s location close to Ashdown Forest.

The Iroko timber gives the gate a strong, traditional finish while also being well suited to outdoor use.

It is a simple installation, but one that works really well for the setting and gives the property a more secure entrance without losing its rural character.

Gates do not last forever, and the pair at this Burwash property had reached the end of the road. You can see it clearly in the before photo.

We replaced them with a set of large Iroko hardwood gates, sized to suit a wide opening and built to stand up to whatever the Weald throws at them.

Replacing tired gates is one of the most common jobs we take on, and it makes an immediate difference to how a home looks from the lane.

We are happy to come out and take a look at your driveway before you commit to anything.

We have worked with Two J's Metalwork for years, and they made the gate for this home in Five Ashes.

It is a bespoke wrought iron style design, automated with Roger Technology mechanical rams and fitted with an AES smart 4G intercom. That means the entry system runs over a mobile signal rather than needing a wired connection back to the house.

It makes life much simpler on properties where the gate sits a long way from the front door.

Driveways rarely sit dead level, and this one in Frant fell away sideways across the opening.

The gate had to be designed around that, with the bottom rail cut to follow the fall so it clears the ground evenly through its whole swing. Two J's Metalwork made the gate for us, and we automated it with Roger Technology ground mechanical operators.

We then added a Videx GSM intercom, so the owners can let visitors in from their mobiles wherever they happen to be. Having lived with a manual gate before, automation was the one thing they were firm about.

A solid gate gives you privacy, but it can also make an entrance feel closed off from the lane.

Vision bars are the middle ground. A run of open bars set into the gate lets light and sightlines carry through, while the gate still does its job. This homeowner in Chiddingly wanted an entrance that looked sharp and kept the property secure, and after a bit of back and forth we landed on a set of automated Iroko gates with vision bars.

They are hung on oak posts and automated with Roger Technology underground operators, which stay out of sight so the gates are the only thing you notice. An AES smart WiFi intercom system handles access, meaning visitors can be seen and let in from a phone.

Get in touch and we can talk through what would suit your own entrance.

A gate that has reached the end of its life tends to announce it.

The original at Hugletts Farm in Heathfield had taken years of weather and was past repairing. Our client wanted the replacement to feel modern and a little bit different, while still sitting comfortably against the rustic character of the farm.

We sat down together and worked through the options, and settled on a swan top Iroko hardwood gate with hourglass vision bars, hung on sturdy oak posts. Iroko copes with wet Sussex winters better than most timbers, and looked after well a wooden gate like this will give you twenty years or more without rot setting in.

The automation runs on Roger Technology below-ground operators, which sit beneath the driveway so nothing interrupts the line of the gate. Access is managed through a smart intercom with a touchscreen monitor indoors, so the owners can see who is at the entrance and let them in from the house.
