Where a fire sprinkler is positioned can make a real difference to how effectively a system protects the space.

Placement is carefully planned around the building layout, room dimensions, ceiling design and how the area is used, helping make sure water can be distributed where it is needed most if a fire starts.

That is why sprinkler design should be considered as part of the wider building plan, rather than treated as something that can simply be added anywhere later.

Two new projects added to the RAD Fire Sprinklers portfolio!

Our team has started fire sprinkler works at Suffolk House in Ipswich, alongside a new project in Northwood, Dublin, giving us another two opportunities to deliver reliable fire protection across the UK and Ireland.

Every new project is a chance to work closely with clients, understand the requirements of the building and put the right protection in place from the outset.

We’re pleased to be getting started on both projects and look forward to sharing their progress over the coming months.

The Grenfell Tower tragedy remains a stark reminder of why fire safety can never be taken for granted.

Our thoughts remain with everyone affected and with the families who continue to seek answers and justice.

The lessons learned have driven important conversations around building safety, regulations and the need for robust fire protection measures.

While no single solution can prevent every fire, effective fire safety systems, including appropriately designed fire sprinkler systems, play an important role in protecting lives and limiting the spread of fire.

As an industry, we all have a responsibility to continue raising standards, improving safety and ensuring buildings are designed with the people who live and work in them at the forefront.

A fire sprinkler system is designed to protect your property 24/7, but like any life safety system, it needs regular maintenance to continue performing as intended.

Routine inspections can identify issues such as leaks, corrosion, damaged sprinkler heads or faulty components before they become bigger problems.

They also help ensure your system remains compliant and ready to respond in the event of a fire.

Maintaining your sprinkler system isn't just about meeting regulations. It's about protecting people, property and business continuity.

If your fire sprinkler system is due for a service, our team is here to help.

In England, Approved Document B requires sprinkler systems in new blocks of flats with a top storey more than 11 metres above ground level.

Updated guidance also introduced sprinkler provision for all new care homes from March 2025.

The requirements can differ depending on the building type, height, location and intended use, with separate regulations applying across England, Wales and Scotland.

That is why fire protection should be considered at the earliest stage of a project, not added as an afterthought.

Your fire sprinkler system is designed to protect your property, but damage, poor maintenance and everyday changes to a building can affect how well it performs.

Obstructed sprinkler heads can interrupt water distribution, while paint, dust and corrosion may stop components from operating correctly.

Renovation work, accidental knocks and missed inspections can also leave faults unnoticed.

Regular checks help identify these threats before they become a serious problem.

If your sprinkler system is damaged, obstructed or overdue for an inspection, get in touch with our team.

Think your steak can set off your fire sprinklers? That’s a myth.

Fire sprinklers respond to intense heat, not smoke, so everyday cooking fumes or a smoky candle won’t cause them to activate.

When the temperature around a sprinkler head reaches its set level, it operates automatically to help control the fire before it spreads further.

Understanding how sprinkler systems work can help remove unnecessary concerns and show just how targeted this protection really is.

Some areas are easier to overlook when planning fire protection.

Loft conversions, plant and boiler rooms, and communal corridors each carry different risks and should be considered as part of a complete sprinkler system design.
