Constructing and installing the alcove units was straightforward, but the layout and positioning of existing features made the job more challenging than expected. The chimney breast had limited depth, which meant the cabinets could only be built to a shallow size. The walls were also significantly uneven. Additionally, the mantelpiece was almost the same width as the chimney breast, while the log burner had been set further back than the alcove walls—apparently packed out for reasons unknown.
We’ll be making a few final adjustments tomorrow to refine everything.
