Bit of advise guys.
I was supposed to do a job for a company but when I arrived on site it had already been done by a third party. I was given the job by a management company.

Having travelled some 220 miles round trip and paid for materials which could not be returned the management company agreed to pay for labour and travel etc and materials...no problem so I invoice them.

After waiting four weeks and asking the question on a regular basis when payment will be made I was told it was made last Friday. I checked my bank Monday and still nothing in.

This is where it gets interesting as someone compromised my email last week and responded to my client advising that due to VAT issues the money was to be paid into another account. The idiot from management company did this and paid the o/s amount.

The emails were found in my trash box. The emails that were sent from the fraudster were clearly from someone with broken English as a lot of it was eligible. I’m not even VAT registered and have done work for them before. Alarm bells should have been ringing from them to check by phone with me if it was genuine. I’m told now the company cannot claim anything back from the bank. It has been actioned with ‘action fraud’ and a crime reference number generated.
I need to know how to handle the next steps as I can’t afford to be out of pocket some £500. It’s not a lot but it is at this time of the year. Sorry for long post lads. Happy crimbo
