Fuel prices don’t just move on their own… and right now, things are shifting.

With the UAE stepping away from OPEC, we’re likely heading into a period of less stability in energy markets. That doesn’t always mean higher prices straight away—but it does mean less predictability.

And when energy becomes unpredictable, it affects everything:
– heating
– electricity
– household costs

That’s exactly why more people are looking back at solid fuel.

There’s no better time to:
✔️ bring an open fire back into use
✔️ install a wood-burning stove
✔️ take a bit more control over your own heating

It’s not about going off-grid completely… it’s about having options.

A properly installed and regularly maintained stove gives you:
– reliable heat
– independence from price swings
– peace of mind when things aren’t so steady

If you’ve got a chimney, you’ve got an opportunity.

Make sure it’s safe. Make sure it’s swept. Make sure it’s ready.

Because when you’ve got your own heat source… you’re not relying on anyone else to keep you warm.

🔥 CHIMNEY SAFETY ISN’T OPTIONAL — IT’S ESSENTIAL 🔥

As we move through the year, it’s easy to forget about your chimney… especially when you’re not lighting the fire every day.

But here’s the reality — soot, tar, and debris don’t just disappear.

They build up.

And when they do, they increase the risk of chimney fires, poor draft, and dangerous gases like carbon monoxide entering your home.

And it’s not just dangerous…

Soot smells. It lingers. And it makes a mess of your appliance and your home.

At Sweep Safe, we always say the same thing:

👉 A clean chimney is a safe chimney.

Whether you’re using wood, coal, or smokeless fuels, regular sweeping isn’t just maintenance — it’s protection for your home and your family.

✔️ Reduce fire risk
✔️ Improve appliance efficiency
✔️ Ensure proper ventilation
✔️ Stay compliant with home insurance companies

If you haven’t had your chimney checked or swept recently, now’s the time to get it booked in — before you need it again.

Stay safe. Stay professional. Sweep Safe.

With the prolonged wet and damp weather we’re seeing, it’s worth reminding homeowners of something simple but important.

Using your chimney helps keep it dry and functioning properly.

When a chimney isn’t used for long periods — especially in persistent rain and high humidity — moisture can build up inside the flue. That damp can lead to:
• Poor draw
• Tar and creosote issues
• Deterioration of liners and masonry
• Damp smells and staining inside the property

Occasional, correct use helps warm the flue, encourages airflow, and drives out moisture. Combine that with seasoned fuel, good ventilation, and regular sweeping, and your chimney stays healthier for longer.

As always, if you’re unsure about the condition of your chimney or flue, have it checked by a competent, registered sweep.

Dry flues are safer flues.

The new year’s started.
So let’s start it the right way.

A swept chimney isn’t about box-ticking — it’s about avoiding the things nobody wants:
• chimney fires
• smoke problems
• carbon monoxide risks
• breakdowns right in the middle of winter

Regular sweeping keeps appliances running efficiently, safely, and as they were designed to work.

If you’ve got a stove or open fire and it hasn’t been swept recently, now’s the sensible time to sort it — before small issues become big ones.

Find a registered professional sweep and start the year clean, safe, and worry-free with Sweep Safe Ltd.

With the economic situation tightening, more households are starting to look again at what they already have — and for many people, that includes an unused chimney or fireplace.

A solid fuel appliance can offer more than just heat. Used correctly, it adds a valuable layer of redundancy at home — giving you an alternative source of warmth at times when there are no guarantees over gas or electricity supplies. In many cases, it can also provide a second way to cook, if the appliance is designed and installed to do so.

That kind of flexibility can make a real difference.

However, before lighting anything for the first time, it’s essential to make sure the chimney is safe, suitable, and fit for use.

Unused chimneys can hide serious issues — blockages, damaged or missing liners, historic alterations, or defects that simply aren’t visible from the fireplace opening.

That’s why any chimney being brought back into service should be properly tested and inspected by a competent professional.

Using what you already have can make sense — especially in uncertain times — but it must be done safely.

What Causes Carbon Monoxide?

1️⃣ Blocked Chimneys & Flues – The Number One Cause

Carbon monoxide is produced when fuel doesn’t burn properly.
In real homes, the most common reason this happens is a blocked or restricted chimney or flue.

When exhaust gases can’t escape safely outdoors, they are forced back into the living space. The fire may still look “normal”, but the combustion process has already failed. Carbon monoxide is the result.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is what you get when the fire doesn’t get enough oxygen, heat, or time to finish the combustion reaction. The carbon only grabs one oxygen atom and stops halfway.

So instead of:

Carbon + Oxygen → CO₂ (safe-ish)

You get:

Carbon + not enough oxygen → CO (dangerous)

Carbon monoxide can be produced by any hydrocarbon-based fuel:
• Wood
• Coal
• Oil
• Gas
• Pellets

Hydrocarbon fuels are fuels that began life as plant matter of some form, either recently (like wood) or millions of years ago (like coal, oil, and gas). When these fuels burn with enough oxygen, they produce carbon dioxide. When they don’t, they produce carbon monoxide.

That’s why ventilation, clear flues, and correct appliance setup matter just as much as the appliance itself.

Carbon monoxide is invisible, odourless, and silent — but the science behind it is very simple. Good combustion in, exhaust out.

CO is dangerous because it’s chemically sneaky. It binds to your blood’s haemoglobin about 200 times more strongly than oxygen. Your blood grabs the CO and then politely refuses to carry oxygen. You’re breathing, but your cells are quietly suffocating.

Fit CO alarms.
Keep flues clear.
Get appliances checked by competent professionals.

Carbon Monoxide – What You Need to Know

• Carbon monoxide (CO) is invisible, odourless and tasteless. If you can smell fumes, it’s already a problem.
• Any fuel-burning appliance can produce CO if it’s faulty, poorly installed, blocked or badly ventilated.
• Early symptoms are headache, dizziness, nausea and fatigue – often mistaken for flu or tiredness.
• Fit an audible CO alarm in the same room as every solid fuel appliance and test it regularly.
• Have appliances and flues checked by a competent professional. A sweep isn’t optional – it’s life safety.

Quiet gas. Serious risk. Preventable.
