Homelessness can take many forms, from rough sleeping and sofa surfing to living in temporary or unsuitable accommodation. It can affect people for many different reasons, including financial pressures, relationship breakdowns, and domestic abuse. In Torbay, the most common reason for homelessness is the loss of a private-rented tenancy.
This World Homeless Day, we're recognising the important work being done across Torbay to prevent homelessness and support those at risk. Over the past year, more than 1,500 people have approached Torbay Council for help because they were homeless or at risk of homelessness.
As a housing developer, creating homes and communities where people can thrive is at the heart of what we do. That's why we're proud to support the work of Torbay's Homelessness and Rough Sleeper Forum, which is helping to improve access to safe, affordable accommodation and create lasting change across Torbay.
