World Environment Day 2026 🌍

Friday was World Environment Day, a day for raising awareness and taking action on critical environmental issues.

We are proud to have been recycling plastics within the waterproofing industry since 2017, thanks to our recycling service and our specialist contractors.

Since its inception, we've achieve some amazing figures:
♻️ We've recycled over 27 tonnes of plastic
🌿 Avoiding the emission of more than 31 tonnes of CO2e
🌍 Through the collection of 1,275 bags of recycling (and counting...)

Sustainability is also embedded into our product development and sourcing. Eight of our products already hold Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) with more to come. A further three products in our leading cavity drain waterproofing system are manufactured from 100% recycled plastic, whilst still holding BBA certification.

By ensuring our products have independently verified environmental data, we can support specifiers to make informed decisions on their own sustainable building practices.

World Environment Day isn't just a singe day of action, it's a commitment to a strategy that protects our future planet.

Another new-build waterproofing project on the go with the Maclennan waterproofing team 👀

This new-build, semi-basement has been designed as a habitable space, classified as a Grade 3 environment under BS 8102:2022, meaning there's no tolerance for water ingress.

To achieve this, two forms of protection are being installed.

First, a Type A system has been applied to all retaining and ground-bearing elements, providing a robust barrier against moisture.

Next, a Type C system has been installed, which will channel any water ingress safely, ensuring long-term protection.

For drainage, the client has opted for gravity discharge, directing water either to a soakaway (minimum 5m from the property) or into surface water drainage, always confirmed by a drainage engineer.

The Newton CDM System, installed by Dampcoursing Ltd.! 💪

Our comprehensive Type C waterproofing system will usually be suggested as one of the forms of waterproofing required to provide superior levels of protection against water ingress and where a completely dry internal environment is required.

This maintainable basement waterproofing solution is ideal for both new-build basements and refurbishment projects. The system comprises of BBA approved cavity drain membranes, drainage conduits, sump chambers, pumps, and associated control and telemetry systems.

A combination of our decades of basement waterproofing experience with our industry-leading products, the CDM System includes a range of British Board of Agrément certified cavity drainage membrane.

Check out these HydroBond 402 installation pictures from Premier 1st for Property Care, from their site in Truro!

Despite being called onto this project for two new-build properties at a very late stage, Premier are still providing a full waterproofing specification for the main contractor, designing a system that complies with British Standard 8102:2022.

The first stage is to provide an external Type A waterproof barrier to the new basement areas using HydroBond 402. The product is a high-performance sheet membrane for the external waterproofing of below-ground foundation structures, basements, water holding tanks, culverts and tunnel bases.

Providing a complete waterproof envelope to this structure, HydroBond 402's flexibility gives it excellent crack-bridging capability over construction joints and cracks within the concrete.

This results in a high-strength bond with exceptional peel adhesion qualities, and so prevents migration of water between the concrete and the membrane, even if the membrane is damaged.

PROJECT PROFILE | Refurbishing a Flooded Retail Basement, Chelsea.

Our Specialist Contractor Garratts Damp & Timber LTD provided their waterproofing expertise on the refurbishment of this high-end structure in the prestigious London Borough of Chelsea, as the basement area was experiencing high volumes of water ingress.

By performing a flood simulation, Garratts identified water was entering via defects in the shop front and pavement light wells. It was then travelling along a concealed steel joist and entering the centre of the basement.

Garratt’s designed a bespoke metal bund system to resolve the defects and prevent further water ingress. Utilising Type A products like our HydroCoat 107 Elastic 2K, as well as our CDM System for cavity drain waterproofing, Garratts delivered a bespoke waterproofing solution.

The solution also delivered a completely dry, Grade 3 internal environment, meeting the requirements of British Standard 8102 for the previously flooded shop basement.

More training at the Newton HQ in Kent, this time for Newton Specialist Contractor Shield Preservation.

Yesterday, a large group of the Shield Preservation team visited our Tonbridge office for comprehensive training on PolyMaxx HA, our newest system for deck and flat roof waterproofing.

The PolyMaxx HA System is a BBA approved, fully bonded, reinforced and seamless waterproofing system for roofs (including blue/green roof structures), balconies, podium decks and structural slabs.

Where correctly detailed and installed, PolyMaxx HA provides an extremely durable waterproof coating that is capable of long-term performance in exposed and foot traffic conditions.

The Shield team got hands-on with the new product, as well as benefiting from technical presentations from Site Support Manager and PolyMaxx expert Gary!
