Porcelain Patio Rescue – Tolleshunt D’Arcy 🏡
Unfortunately, not every job we take on starts from scratch. Sometimes we’re called in to put right work that simply hasn’t been carried out to the standard it should have been.
This porcelain area in Tolleshunt D’Arcy had previously been laid by another contractor, and once we started lifting the slabs it quickly became clear why the customer was having problems.
❌ Porcelain slabs butted tightly together with virtually no joints
❌ Slabs laid using a dot-and-dab method rather than a full mortar bed
❌ No slurry primer applied to the backs of the porcelain
❌ No proper jointing/grouting
❌ Several slabs had even been installed with existing chips
The slabs lifted far easier than porcelain paving should, so we carefully removed them one by one to save as many as possible for the customer.
We then:
🔹 Broke out and removed the existing bedding material
🔹 Graded and prepared the area correctly
🔹 Installed a new Leamix base
🔹 Lifted and properly re-bedded sections of the existing block border
🔹 Cleaned and prepared the porcelain slabs for reuse
🔹 Re-laid the porcelain correctly with consistent joints
🔹 Finished the patio with a proper grout
The customer had already paid once to have this area completed, so it was important to us that we salvaged what we could and gave them the patio they should have received the first time around.
A massive transformation and, most importantly, now installed properly. 👌
