Will Thorne and Jenny Wyness established TWA in Tobermory in 2010 and have worked on a wide range of projects, both residential and commercial, from small extensions to refurbishments and new build. We live and work in an Island community and we have a unique sense of the challenges and opportunities that rural life can offer. We are fully conversant with the traditional aesthetic, construction me

thods, and materials of the island, and this lets us successfully work our contemporary approach into the existing landscape. Our work on Mull has given us an acute understanding of the local build costs and conditions specific to rural locations. This allows us to stretch the potential within the budget and provide the best possible design value. Our practice’s designs focus on energy conservation, and this ethos is inherent in all of our work. We are Passive House designers, and members of the Association for Environment Conscious Building. These needn't be grand and expensive applications, but instead we focus on the opportunity to scrutinise and adapt existing approaches to design and occupation. Our training in Passive House design techniques, along with the ability to analyse the thermal performance of our construction details, means that all of our designs are warm, damp-free, healthy, and comfortable. All of our work aims to be environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.
