Would your dream kitchen pass the ‘cup of tea’ test?

Forget the perfectly styled kitchen for a moment. The best kitchens aren’t just beautiful; they’re designed around real life.

A space where you can make a cup of tea while chatting to the family.Where the kids can do their homework while you’re cooking.Where everyone can sit down together. And where there’s actually somewhere to put the school bags, coats and shopping.

Because good design isn’t just about how a space looks.

It’s about how it works, how it feels and how easily it fits into everyday life.

So, would your dream kitchen pass the cup of tea test?

Never underestimate the power of natural light… especially when the days get shorter.

A well-designed space can completely change the way a home feels and bringing in as much natural light as possible is one of the most important parts of that.

Whether it’s a set of bi-fold doors opening up onto the garden, French doors bringing light into a snug space or a rooflight or skylight drawing sunshine in from above, the right glazing can make a room feel brighter, bigger and more connected to the outdoors.

And in the depths of winter, when daylight can feel like it disappears far too quickly, those extra rays of natural light can make all the difference.

Good design isn’t just about creating more space.

It’s about creating better space… light, bright and enjoyable to live in all year round.

Thinking about knocking down a wall?

Don’t pick up the sledgehammer just yet!

Removing a wall can completely transform the way your home feels but there’s a little more to it than simply deciding where you’d like the opening to be.

Before any walls come down, there are a few important things to consider:

* Is the wall structural?* Will you need steelwork?* Are building regulations involved?* How will the new space flow?* How can we make the most of the light and space?

Getting these things right at the beginning can save you time, money and a whole lot of stress further down the line!

At Open Plan Space, we can help take care of the process from the initial ideas and architectural drawings, through to the structural work and finished space.

So before you reach for that sledgehammer… let's make a plan.

A beautiful kitchen isn’t just about the big decisions.

Sometimes, it’s the details that bring everything together… like a classic Belfast sink, traditional cabinetry and those little touches that make a kitchen feel lived in and loved.

Timeless, practical and full of character, this is the kind of kitchen that feels just as at home on a busy Monday morning as it does hosting friends on a Saturday evening.

We feel that good design should look beautiful and work beautifully!

As the evenings get darker and we start spending more time indoors, the way we use our homes can really change.

Is your kitchen becoming the hub of the house? Is everyone fighting for space around the dining table? Or are you wishing you had somewhere to relax together?

Sometimes it's not that you need a bigger house; you just need your existing space to work harder for you.

That's where a well-planned extension, knock-through or renovation can make all the difference.
Thinking about transforming your home? Let's have a chat.

The little details are what make a kitchen feel like yours.

A beautiful kitchen doesn’t have to feel overly polished or perfectly styled. Some of our favourite spaces are the ones with a little personality woven through them.

A pop of colour, a fun wallpaper, favourite artwork, open shelving filled with things you love or simply a few flowers and plants can completely change the feel of a space.

These are the details that make a kitchen feel warm, lived-in and personal; somewhere that feels like your home, rather than just a beautiful room.

When planning a kitchen renovation, don’t be afraid to have a little fun with it. The practical details matter, but so does creating a space that makes you smile every time you walk in.

From separate spaces to one light and bright kitchen

This knock-through transformation has completely changed the feel of the home, creating a more open, welcoming space that’s perfect for everyday family life and entertaining.

By opening up the layout and bringing more light into the space, the kitchen now feels brighter, more spacious and much better connected to the rest of the home.

It’s a great example of how thoughtful changes to the layout can make such a big difference; without needing to move home.

Just four steps to transform your home

Transforming your home doesn’t have to feel complicated. From the first conversation to the final finishing touches, we’re here to guide you through the process.

It all starts with a free consultation, where we’ll explore your ideas, vision and budget before creating a bespoke build package around your needs.

Next comes conception. Working with our architect, we’ll develop the ideas, drawings and structural details needed to bring your vision to life.

Then it’s time for the work to begin. With a clear project timeline in place, our team takes care of the build so you can relax knowing your project is in safe hands.

And finally, completion. Our award-winning team manages the details from start to finish, coordinating with building control and engineers to help ensure everything runs smoothly.

Home renovation trends we’re seeing across the Wirral 🏡

We’re seeing homeowners increasingly look for spaces that feel brighter, more flexible and better suited to modern family life.

Open-plan living remains hugely popular, creating brighter, more sociable spaces, while kitchens are becoming the true heart of the home; designed for cooking, dining, relaxing and entertaining.

We’re also seeing more homeowners choosing to improve, not move. Extending, reconfiguring and renovating can create the space you need while staying in the home and community you already love.

Flexible spaces are another big priority, with home offices, homework areas and multifunctional rooms that can adapt as life changes.

And, of course, more natural light. Roof lanterns, skylights, large glazed doors and open-plan layouts can completely transform how a home feels, while bi-fold and sliding doors help create that all-important connection between the home and garden.

Thinking about renovating your home on the Wirral? We’d love to help.

A winning start in the new kits!

We’re delighted to be supporting Shorevilla, a fantastic local kids’ football team here on the Wirral and it was brilliant to see the team take to the pitch in their brand-new kits featuring the Open Plan Space logo.

And what a first game in them… 4–1! 🙌⚽️

We’re really proud to be supporting a local team and helping them do what they love - getting out there, playing together and having fun.

Well done, Shorevilla! Here’s to plenty more goals, great games and happy Saturdays. 💙
