🏠 RIDGE TILE REPAIR & MECHANICAL FIXING 🔨

These ridge tiles had already come off three times over the years, so the customer wanted a solution that would keep them securely in place.

They didn’t want the expense and disruption of having the whole ridge removed, and they also didn’t like the idea of a dry ridge system.

So we came up with the next best solution! 👌

We carefully re-bedded the ridge tiles in mortar and mechanically fixed each one in place, giving them that traditional finish while adding extra security to help prevent them from coming off again. 💪

🏠 CHIMNEY RESTORATION – ANOTHER JOB COMPLETED BY PARKES ASSOCIATES ROOFING 🔨

This chimney was in a really bad way and was in desperate need of some attention.

❌ Mortar completely missing from the joints
❌ Failed leadwork
❌ Broken tiles that had previously been bodged up
❌ Chimney pots that had almost completely crumbled away

We stripped everything back and carried out a full restoration. We raked out and repointed all the mortar joints, replaced the chimney pots, renewed the leadwork and replaced all the broken tiles.

The result is a fully restored chimney, looking great and, most importantly, properly weatherproofed and built to last. 💪

This full bungalow had a mineral felt roofing system due to the low pitch of the roof. The customer wanted the existing roof renewed, so that’s exactly what we did.

We stripped the old roofing system and installed a brand-new mineral felt roof, giving the property a fresh, watertight and long-lasting finish. ✅

🏠 Dry Verge & Dry Ridge vs Mortared

Verge & Ridge — What’s the Difference?
If you’re having your roof replaced, you may be offered either a dry-fix system or the more traditional mortar method.

🔹 Dry Verge & Dry Ridge
• Mechanically fixed rather than relying on mortar
• Generally better long-term resistance to wind
• Less maintenance — no cracked or crumbling mortar to repoint
• Individual components can often be replaced more easily
• Neat, consistent finish
• Usually costs a little more upfront

🔹 Mortared Verge & Ridge
• Traditional method using sand/cement mortar
• Usually less expensive initially
• Can look more in keeping with older/traditional properties
• Mortar can crack, shrink or become loose over time
• May require repointing or rebedding as the roof ages

👉 So which is better?
For most modern roof replacements, dry verge and dry ridge are generally the better long-term option, particularly because the ridge are mechanically secured rather than relying on mortar remaining bonded for years.

That said, a properly installed traditional mortar system can still perform very well and may be the preferred choice where maintaining the original appearance of a property is important.
