Hellesdon Riverside Walk, Project Update #1. We’re on site on the River Wensum, delivering access improvements for Norwich City Council 🌿
Swipe ➡️ to follow along our first couple of weeks progress ☺️🛶
The scheme runs along the River Wensum from Marriott’s Way to the Hellesdon Road car park. It includes an accessible ramp and all-weather path, a new canoe platform, and biodiversity improvements.🙌🏼
Site set up and secured beside the Wensum, ready for works to begin.🌳
Cutting back the overgrown vegetation to open up the riverside path corridor.
The route along the river is opened up and ready for its new all-weather surface.
Before building, we test the ground to work out how deep the foundations need to go. Riverside ground can be soft, so getting this right means the new structures stay solid for years to come.
Recycled-plastic posts driven in along the edge of the River Wensum to support the bank.
The coir rolls used for this project are grown in our own aquatic nursery until they’re established and ready for the river. 🍃
Loading up the coir rolls and heading to Hellesdon.🫡
Pre-planted coir rolls, now staked into the Wensum’s bank to protect it from erosion and give wildlife a head start.
A recycled-plastic headwall around the new culvert where the path crosses the side channel, with the bank reinstated behind it.
The frame is in on the River Wensum, giving paddlers new access to the river. Decking comes next! Follow us for updates on this project☺️
