Project Twll Barn | Where Scandinavian Design Meets Welsh Heritage
Some projects are about so much more than creating a beautiful home. They’re about preserving a story, respecting a building’s heritage and bringing a carefully considered vision to life.
Working closely with architect Rebecca Richardson, self-builders Jo and Vic set out to transform a traditional Welsh barn into a contemporary, energy-efficient home, inspired by the clean simplicity of Scandinavian design while remaining true to its rural Welsh roots.
The approach was fabric-first, with sound original oak timbers carefully preserved and a bespoke timber frame developed in partnership with Ty Cefn Ltd, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern performance.
For Spectrum Architectural Glazing, one of the standout features was the precision required to integrate the beautifully crafted 100% Danish Kastrup windows and doors within the building’s impressive oak frame. Every detail mattered, particularly the alignment of the windows in the main living space.
The result is a thoughtful blend of old and new — a home that honours its past while embracing contemporary design, comfort and energy efficiency.
A fantastic example of what can be achieved when architecture, craftsmanship and high-performance glazing come together.
👏 A pleasure to be involved in this project alongside RRA Architecture, and Ty Cefn
